Thanks for your help Steve Mac! Compacting the deleted file worked for me! I received an email from a friend and was unable to open it. Then I was unable to open any emails for a couple of days. Finally I could open emails but not delete any of them. Thanks again...I am a novice at this computer stuff and its nice to know I can get help from this site. |

Thanks for the tip of using "shift-delete" to rid my OE of several emails that I could not otherwise delete. I could not even move them until I tried clicking on Nortons "this is spam" command. That moved the files to the spam folder. Then I found your tip and deleted the files from OE. Good tip! |

I have had a few e-mails I could not delete. In Outlook, I right clicked on "Local Folders" and then on "new folder." I called it "Need Delete." I transferred (just drag) the problem e-mails from the inbox to this new folder. I could not eliminate the e-mails individually, but I could delete the entire "Need Delete" folder and they were all gone. |

my outlook keeps receiving password req from AT&T/SBC and now i have to go to Web to sign in or send, cannot do it w/my client, Outlook. Now AT&T says 'there's an outage occurring on Outlook in general' is this nonsense reply, or what? EDITOR'S NOTE: Yes, that is nonsense. Outlook is not a service that can have an outage -- it's just a piece of software. Maybe they meant their email server is having problems, but that's quite different. |

I have tried every one of these suggestions to no avail! The program freezes as soon as it is highlighted, so you can't even read what is in the message. I am running several virus programs, none of them are catching any problems. This email was sent to a folder upon arrival from the in box to another folder, so, the rules application worked the first time it ran into it, but won't now. Any other suggestions? EDITOR'S NOTE: You could move all the other messages to a new folder, then just delete the entire folder (after closing Outlook). |

My computer was disconnected for about 3 weeks, now, although working OK, Outlook Express sends my emails with the date 01.01.00., and has simply progressed from that date, therefore, recipients receive my emails and the bottome of their in box. How can I reset the outgoing time? Any help would be appreciated. EDITOR'S NOTE: You can change the Windows clock by double-clicking on the time display in the lower right corner of the taskbar. But it may reset to the wrong time again if your motherboard battery is dead or dying, which I suspect. |

How to: stop OE from opening a new message when you delete one while reading it? EDITOR'S NOTE: Sounds like you'd need to turn off the Preview Pane. |

I've tried the suggestions in this post, to no avail. I have an email in my Outlook Express, from June of this year, that is not at all deletable. It is from a source that I get daily emails from, but, this one was never able to be read, opened, deleted, etc.. It stops my OE from working if I try to do anything to it, like read or delete it. It also stops my OE from 'compacting' when that is required. The compacting gets stuck on that one email, which then requires OE to be shut down. Any help, suggestions, would be soooo appreciated!! EDITOR'S NOTE: Try this: Delete (or move) everything else from that folder, then delete the DBX file that corresponds to that folder. |
