Hey gang -- Bob is always right there with help for us. How about considering buying him a little snack? At the beginning of all these comments and postings there is a Link to buy Bob a snickers bar. Costs only $1 and he sure has saved me a lot more than that over the years. Look at beginning of these posts and click on the link: BUY BOB A SNICKERS. |

That is why I enjoy every file that is converted to free music. Every week, after I gather a pile of songs I run them through Tunebite and then to my iPod. |

To bobHATESiTUNES: Try burning an "Audio CD", not a "Data Disc". I've done this with iTunes Store purchases, and it works fine. EDITOR'S NOTE: I rather like iTunes... it's the DRM file format (which has nothing to do with iTunes) that I don't care for. |

I bouhgt NoteCable(http://www.notecable.com) before I saw this queue of answers. It also does the trick of converting DRM m4p to mp3 and preserves album info. Only it's not as fast as NoteBurner. |

For all of you just go to iTunes preferences, Advanced, Importing and change the import Using format from AAC to MP3 Encoder, its that simple. EDITOR'S NOTE: Not if the AAC file is DRM-protected, sorry. |

I ordered and paid for Noteburner based on comments from your members, but I was redirected to another sales site for stuff that I don't want after I paid with my credit card and was never given the option to actually download what I paid for! I e-mailed Noteburner two days ago about this and no response. Any suggestions? Thanks. EDITOR'S NOTE: I would try emailing or calling again. If no success, call your bank and ask for a chargeback. |

"Converting AAC to MP3 - Bzzzt! Sorry, thanks for playing. It turns out you can only convert non-protected formats (such as WAV or WMA) to MP3." AAC files are not necessarily restricted, but are capable of restrictions (DRM). This goes for WMA as well. I have created a WMA/WAV/MP3 converter, "aumpel", http://aumpel.arbingersys.com that will convert WMA files, but only if they do not contain DRM. I am looking at adding AAC capabilities, and the same thing applies: you are limited to converting AAC files only if they do not contain DRM. (Unless you employ some sort of DRM breaking technique.) |

I use Tunebite(http://audials.com/en/remove_drm/index.html) for my conversions and work perfectly even with DRM protected files. |

I am totally new to mp3 stuff and unfortunatly have a load of songs on iTunes(cringes).Obviously I would like to put them on to my mp3 player but usual problems suffice. There are a lot of options here but which is easiest (I very much need easy). Also Bob,when my iTunes is running and I right click on a song I get the option to 'convert to mp3'.Nooo way can it be this easy.I did it to one song and after "converting"I had two songs of the same??. EDITOR'S NOTE: If the songs are not protected, then yes, it's that easy. But you will end up with BOTH the MP3 and the original copy. Delete the older one. |

If you click on the JHymn link above, it gives you files to download two different programs (apparently JHymn itself no longer works), MyFairTunes and QTFairUse, both of which are compatable with the later versions of itunes and successfully convert the files into m4a, which is unprotected. But the problem is that m4a ia file-type not supported by Windows Media Player. But Wavepad (an audio editing software), http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/ can convert the m4a files then into wav, mp3, etc. It's not free, but the trial doesn't have a time constraint, just limits your features, but to convert the files, all you need to do is open the m4a file and save it again in whatever format you want, which isn't restricted by the trial. So there you go, a perfectly free (if somewhat time-consuming) method of getting your itunes files. Probably not recommended if you have a huge itunes library, but for someone like me who only buys a few songs or album here or there on itunes, it works fine. |
