I downloaded ONE song from iTunes (no, wait, make that 2 songs - the first one, and the LAST one!)and was then told that due to the protected nature of the material I would not be "permitted" to burn it to a CD. Excuse me?!
Won't let me burn it eh? OK, I'll just record it and save it as a wav file instead, then I'll do whatever the hell I want with it.
Bottom line? Bye-Bye iTunes, Bye-bye iPod, and Bye-bye Apple.
When will these people learn that you cannot legislate morality, nor can you screw your customers.. at least not the savvy ones.
It's way past time that the entire record industry woke up to the fact that they are losing money because of their own greed - pure and simple.

When I burn my music I try to put it back onto itunes but it still doesn't convert to mp3. I followed your instructions but it still says that the song cannot be converted because it is protected. PLEASE HELP because I want to put my itunes music on my phone and psp.

EDITOR'S NOTE: After you burn and re-import into iTunes, you will have TWO copies of the song. Find the right one and it will not have the protection.

Thank you so much for the article on converting iTunes to MP3 format. I cannot tell you how irritating it is finding out that music I paid for could not be transferred to any other MP3 unless it was an iPod. Keep up the good work :O)

Problem solved...it turns out that Toast 7 does precisely what I was asking about...and simply enough for a stupid lunk like me! I'll get an ipod when I'm good and ready, if at all. Thanks anyway!

Is it at all possible to take my Itunes songs and out them into my Creative Zen Touch mp3 player? I have read many things, but none of them seem to help me out; I have a friend that plugged his Creative brand mp3 player into Itunes and it worked, but we can't figure out how. I think there should be something fairly easy to use to do this. Please help me with this for I am ignorant to modern technology.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Sure... just follow the instructions in this article to convert the iTunes songs to MP3 files. Then open the folder with the MP3s, and drag & drop them to the MP3 player icon (in My Computer).

Hi, I tried your reccomendation of burnng the cd and then try to convert but even after burning the selected music I am still having the same problem of not being able to convert (the sign that says protected music cannot be converted to MP3). I have done this process before but for some reason it no longer works. I am on os x panther itunes 6. Any help is appreciated. thanks

EDITOR'S NOTE: After importing a CD, you'll have TWO copies of each song, one protected and one not.

I was told coverting MP3 files to AAC will free up more memory space in my Ipod. I converted all of the MP3 files to AAC and now they will not download to my IPOD. What do I do? Also is this true that it frees up space?

EDITOR'S NOTE: Depending on the sound quality settings used, AAC might be a LITTLE smaller than a corresponding MP3 file. But in some examples I've seen the opposite. After converting your MP3s to AAC format, you will have TWO copies of each song. Be sure to use the AACs when loading your iPod.

Hi Bob, thanks so much for your help, I spent hours on Saturday trying to copy 1200 songs from Itunes to my new MP3 player. I had absolutely no luck and thought my only way around was to sit and put all the music back on again.

I managed to convert all of my Itunes last night and now have put them onto my new player. I used the Import function you described above. Excluding the the one's I'd purchased through Itunes but I will burn them onto CD, if I can't get them it's not so major as that's about 1/2 dozen songs. I only wish I had typed my question into google on Saturday but at least I know how to do it now.

I have been a Mac user for 10 years. I have grown to HATE APPLE! I just spent 40 hours organizing my music (much of it I wrote) in itunes an an attempt to cut down on stored CD's. Once I burned it however none of them will play on either of my CD players. I AM SO PI**ED! The whole reason I bought this new computer was to organize my life!
