Hi, I'm running windows 2000 on my Dell laptop and not real computer literate. Is there a system restore function in windows 2000?

EDITOR'S NOTE: Sorry, no.

System Restore is a fantastic tool and I thought that Norton was a good product, but in fact every time I had a problem with any of my computers or OS, most of the time, after testing and uninstalling applications and several updates, Norton was the one interfering.... and the worst was when it totally "handicapped" the System Restore tool. At first I disabled Norton Ghost and it seemed to work on my old PC.

Now I have a new Laptop, and while I was testing System Restore before moving my old data into this new computer, I was pretty upset…. A new computer, Windows Media Center Edition, with all the windows updates, was failing terribly with the System Restore. (even in Safe Mode). Long story short, after 10 reinstallations, I deleted Norton and that worked the magic. System Restore was finally successful.

I think that everyone would find the following links extremely useful: http://discussions.virtualdr.com/showthread.php?t=213740 and http://bertk.mvps.org/html/symantecdoc1.html

I have been unable to do system restore since I bought my computer. Unfortunately to save money I did not buy a warranty. It gives me the "system restore could not be completed" or whatever that error message is. I've tried several help tutorials online and have done everything from wiped out my previous restore dates to checking to make sure all my updates are running that are needed for system restore to work. Can you PLEASE help me?

EDITOR'S NOTE: The only suggestion I have is that removing your anti-virus software before attempting System Restore may help.

If you upgrade to Windows XP and have lost ALL data, is there a way to restore it back?????

EDITOR'S NOTE: You should not lose your data when upgrading from one Windows version to another. Did you really upgrade, or did you do a format and new install? If you formatted the disk, everything is gone.

I have XP SP2 and ever since I refused the entry on a message from ad-aware saying that a program was trying to access my registry, I am unable to open any files. Even system restore can not be done as the same message comes that windows can not open this file. I will appreciate if you can guide me how to restore my computer now.

EDITOR'S NOTE: I would try removing all anti-spyware, anti-virus and firewall software, then do a system restore.
