i have tried all methods listed above, the hardware page can recognise my pioneer dvr-215 dvd drive but in "my computer" dvd icon missing. PLs help, urgent , thx bob

EDITOR'S NOTE: I haven't held any secrets back here... if the registry trick doesn't work, and you've tried re-installing the driver software, then I'm stumped. You may have to re-install the operating system if some files have become damaged.

Hi, i have done all the things that you have said and there only appears to be a lowerfilters file but NO upperfilters. What should i do?

EDITOR'S NOTE: I don't think it can hurt to remove the lowerfilters entry.

Why do we need to change the registry? Your solution does work..but I just wanted to know why? And what does lower key and upper key mean?

EDITOR'S NOTE: Some programs, when installed or uninstalled, may trample on the Windows registry, or leave behind registry keys that can confuse the operating system. We're just cleaning up the mess with this little trick.

I have a missing CD/rom Icon missing. I can't find the lower filter and upper filters. What should I do?

EDITOR'S NOTE: Did you try removing, rebooting, and then re-adding the hardware (and software drivers)?
