I had a rental disc explode in my dvd-rom drive while watching it only months ago! So perhaps if threatened, a squirrel just may explode too! It's always easy to refute when it hasn't happened to you, but trust me, it DOES happen! Oh and the store refused to help out saying it was my drive!

Hi I am an elementary technology school teacher. Last January I had a CD explode in a computer of one of my students. Yes, it was very loud and scared most of the students. This January not only did a CD exploded but shards of the CD flew out of the Comuter one of them hit a student.

I have been trying to find out why this is happening and how to prevent it from happening again. I do not want a student to get hurt.

I had this happen to my brand new iMAC several years ago, right after I bought it. I went to install a graphics program from a CD and the disc came apart in the drive. From an iMAC to a doorstop in one second. I had to take it to the Genius Bar at the Apple Store to even get the drive door open. They fixed it, but it took three hours. Apparently (and I don't pretend to understand this) when it happened it created more than a physical problem, as the genius folk installed a program called BATCHMOD and made extensive use of it in the repair.....

My daughter was playing a sims disc last night when it just exploded in the drive, quite a loud bang, took me about 3 hours to strip pc down and get all the parts of disc out.

Wish I known to back up all my discs and use the backups, saving the originals - I'm lost without my Microsoft works suite 2000 Home Publishing disc no 5 since it exploded this month. It was my most used disc - could this be a clue as to why?

My Acer drive was at shoulder height and sounded just like a gunshot. Luckily, the disc was on a tray which was closed.

EDITOR'S NOTE: I would hope that if you called Microsoft, they would replace the disk for free. You'll most likely need a new CDROM drive, too. Also, if you're using that disk so much, why not load it on the hard drive?
