Just to update your article, AOL is NO LONGER (Caps are intentional) providing Xdrive service. I had a premium account (thanks to beta testing) and received a notice that AOL has canceled the Xdrive service. So it looks like the 25.90 plan (which thankfully I got rid of when I got Comcast HSI) has no real value anymore. |

Thanks for the info. Does this apply to compuserve also? Can I keep my @cs.com e-mail address with the free AOL web account? EDITOR'S NOTE: I know AOL owns CS, but I have not heard that it applies to CS. Not sure... |

"To get your free AOL account, visit free.aol.com." This link leads to the AOL Settings page. No sight of the free AOL. Help? EDITOR'S NOTE: Seems to have been buried here: Go to http://free.aol.com/thenewaol/plan_choice.adp then click "High-speed Users" tab. |

I have been an AOL subscriber (paying customer) for years. I am so afraid of losing all the files I have created using "Saved on AOL", my address book, or my favorite places. EDITOR'S NOTE: You should not loose anything. You can continue to use the AOL software, and you will retain your screen names and passwords. But just to be safe, doesn't AOL let you save copies of stuff in your own computer? |

I am on free AOL through a DSL provider. I recently found that my outgoing emails have an advertisng line about free credit checks at the bottom. I don't know it this is AOL's doing or mine, but I want it stopped. Any insight or help to remove this intrusive advertisement would be appreciated. EDITOR'S NOTE: It's probably a condition of using the free AOL service. If so, there's no way to get rid of it. |

I ahve broadband and am considering the Free AOL. I saw a short blurp... can no longer remember where... that I will need to open my high speed provider before I access my AOL account. That means taking AOL out of my Start Menu. How do I do this? EDITOR'S NOTE: With any high-speed connection I've ever had (DSL, Cable, FIOS) you don't have to do anything to get connected. It just happens as part of the startup processing. I have one computer in my home with the free AOL service, and I don't do anything different. |

How long has the AOL been free if you have another connection like Verizon high speed internet? I have had it for 3 years..but liked AOL's toolbar...etc, so I kept it and paid the 25.90 a month....I guess I threw a lot of money away, and didn't know it. EDITOR'S NOTE: The free AOL service has been around since mid-2006. |
