Followed instructions, made desk top printer a share printer with name printer1. EDITOR'S NOTE: Maybe a firewall issue. Try turning firewalls on both machine off... |

I have 2 printers installed on my desktop...an HP and a Lexmark. I have a wireless home network set up. The wizard "pulled" over my HP printer on my laptop but it didn't "pull" over the information for the Lexmark printer (which is the one I want to use right now). What have I done wrong? Thank you for reading and your help! EDITOR'S NOTE: I had a Lexmark that would even share on a wired network. I think I neded up installing the printer software from the CD on both computers. That may help. |

I have a Dell desktop with XP attached to two printers. I have one laptop able to print wirlessly to both printers. This first laptop also uses XP. We have a second laptop with Vista that cannot print to either printer. I assume this has something to do with drivers, but I am not sure what I need to do. Any suggestions? EDITOR'S NOTE: What happens when you try to print from the Vista machine? |

Bob, our kodak aio printer his directly connected to our xp desktop, we have two vista laptops that can see the printer but when we try I get the error on my laptop saying "Windows cannot connect to the printer. Make sure you have typed the name correctly, and that the printer is connected to the network." which both are already taken care of. Help EDITOR'S NOTE: When you say they can "see the printer" do you mean it shows up in the list of installed printers? Vista seems to not cooperate well on a wireless network with non-Vista computers. You might try disabling firewalls, or running your Vista machine in Admin mode. |

Thanks for all the great information. I followed it, but the laptop could not find the printer that is hooked up to my desktop. My laptop is a Vista, should that matter? Please help me hook this up it is driving me crazy. I have been trying different things for 2 weeks. EDITOR'S NOTE: I've suggested to others with Vista that the built-in firewall may be causing the problem. You might also try running as Admin to see if it's a problem with user privileges. |

I turned both my desktop machine & lapotop's firewall off. Are my computers at risk from Internet threats? EDITOR'S NOTE: I suggest you see: http://askbobrankin.com/do_i_need_a_firewall.html |

Bob, I had the same problem as Darren (Aug. 2 posting) = "I followed your instructions to set up my wireless printing. Had trouble. My desktop is the one with the printer attached. The printer is on. Both the desktop and my laptop are running VISTA. But when I tried to add a printer on my laptop it said 'none found' even though I am on line through my wireless router." The wireless laptop can't find the network printer. EDITOR'S NOTE: Seems pretty common with Vista. The new security features get in the way more often than they help. DId you try running as Admin, or turning off the firewall? |

I red the information and although helpful. I was unsuccessful. I have a dell pc running windows XP, connected to two (2) printers. I have a toshiba laptop running vista I want to print from these printer using a D-link wireless router. I have a secure WPA2 connection. EDITOR'S NOTE: Vista seems to make printer sharing much more difficult. Are you logged in as an Admin user? |

My son, who normally does these things for me, is away at school. He sent me the link to your site. What nice clear instructions! My computer asks for the URL of my printer.... how can I find that? If I use the browse feature, it only has the directory for the printers at work...not here at home. I have ascertained the Home PC is in "share" position. I have put your site on "my favorites"! Thanks... old lady school teacher here. Don't know if it matters.... I have a school issued...Lenovo X61 laptop. EDITOR'S NOTE: Your computer may be set to connect to a different workgroup name, since it came from the school. Click on Control Panel, System, then click the Computer Name tab. Click the Change button and you can change the Workgroup name. |
