I have Vista on a desktop computer with wireless internet using a netgear router, and hardwired the hp 1210 printer to it. Now i'm trying to wirelessly print to that printer from my Windows XP laptop. I shared the printer on the vista computer and went to 'add printer' on the laptop, but no printer shows up. Also, would it be a problem if the vista has an administrator password on it? EDITOR'S NOTE: Have you checked to see if workgroup names match? Also try using the same admin user/pw on both machines. |

will all printers share? I was told by HP that the 952c is not capable of printer sharing. EDITOR'S NOTE: I can't see why not, unless they specifically wrote the drivers to prevent it. And that doesn't seem like a smart move. Give it a try... |

I have a new Compaq Presario C571NR notebook computer running under Windows Vista Home Premium. As with every other new version of Windows, I am finding that things that I used to be able to do with no problems are now impossible to achieve. I have a Lexmark 1200 series printer attached to a desktop computer, which is, in turn, connected via cable to a wireless router. We have two notebook PCs -- the one I just mentioned, and a Dell Inspiron 5150 running under Windows XP and connected wirelessly to the router. Tonight I was able within 5 minutes to connect the Dell to our printer, print out a test page, and my wife has been able to print things with no trouble at all. Unfortunately, the same is not true for me, using the latest and greatest operating system from Microsoft. Windows Vista cannot find the printer at all. Typing in the correct location and name ( \\Nick\Lexmark1 in my example ) also gives me bupkis. What do I need to do to get something to print??? EDITOR'S NOTE: It seems that Vista really wasn't ready for prime time... My advice: Upgrade from Vista to Windows XP. |

Maybe Vista is why my 952C will not share. Has anyone been able to share printers on Vista? |

I have one newer computer, a Sony PCG-K35 with Windows XP, and one old printer, an HP 812c Deskjet. Can you tell me how I can achieve wireless printing without having a desktop and network? EDITOR'S NOTE: If your printer is not plugged into a computer, then it must be plugged into a network router. I don't know of any way to print wirelessly without a network. |

If the printer is attached by cables into my desktop (therefore, it is in no way a wireless printer), are there still ways that I can print from my wireless laptop through either my desktop or my wired printer? Hopefully this makes sense. EDITOR'S NOTE: Yes, that's exactly what the article explains. Your wireless laptop can connect to your desktop via your network and print on the desktop's printer. |

I had been successfully printing wirelessly from my old laptop (running XP) via the network until I connected my new laptop running Vista home premium. The HB Photosmart C4180 printer is connected to the desktop which in turn is connected to the wireless router. Now I can't print wirelessly from either of the laptops. I think there may be an XP/Vista conflict but HP simply say my printer model won't work on a wireless network and I need a wireless print server. They haven't explained how I managed wireless printing before installing the new laptop! Network Magic is unable to resolve this issue. HELP......... |

Hi Bob. I went through everything until the browse in your last step. The laptop can find the desktop name (GEORGE) under MSHOME but the printer name isn't shown. It only "browses" halfway and gives errors when I manually type in the printer name. $50 to you if you can figure this out. I'm serious. I've wasted 5 hours today on this. EDITOR'S NOTE: Spend the $50 on some ethernet cable... some of these wireless networking problems are just too maddening. |

Bob, I've been trying and trying without success. My stuff: Dell desktop with Windows XP Home, D-Link wireless router, Dell A940 printer wired to desktop via wireless router, Dell laptop with Windows Vista. Is there an XP/Vista conflict that blocks the print command from the laptop to the printer? |
