Excellent article and posts, Bob !
I was just wondering if we could entirely get rid of the cables, by connecting the video-out from the PC directly into the coaxial cable socket. In that way, the signal will be distributed to all TV's in the house. Any possibilities?

EDITOR'S NOTE: You could try, but I don't know if you can "push" a video signal backwards along a coax cable. What would happen when it encountered the splitter?

I have a 2003 Model Samsung TV and want to use it as my monitor. I bought what looks like a VGA to RCA cable, but when I hook it up from my Monitor port on my PC to my RCA ports on my TV I don't see anything. Is my computer not able to transfer VGA to RCA or did I buy the wrong cable? The cable's packaging says Connection Cable YUV 3 RCA Plugs to 15 pin HDD Plug, Transfers YUV signals. Thanks for any advice in advance.

EDITOR'S NOTE: It could be the wrong cable, but I've never tried exactly what you're wanting to do. I'd visit the local Radio Shack and ask them which cable will work.

ive got an lcd tv and already have my computer hooked up to my tv....but i dont have any audio when on my computer, ive checked my audio volume on my pc and its all the way up....do i need some "special" cable? or do i just need to go out and buy computer speakers?

EDITOR'S NOTE: You'll need to connect the audio OUT from your computer to some speakers, or to the audio IN on the TV.

I want to know if using my DLP projection screen as a primary monitor for my computer is a good idea or not. I understand that some technologies (of T.V.s) do better or worse with a concept termed as "burn-in" by some people. I guess what I'm saying is, I'm concerned about seeing a permanent Task bar at the bottom of this DLP projection screen while viewing any of my other inputs such as cable television, DVD player, etc.

If this is not a good idea, is there a HDTV that you would suggest for a multipurpose monitor like what I'm looking for...? To fill my recessed wall I was able to fit a 46". I would like to keep roughly that same size. (did not know if the size would affect your suggestion)

EDITOR'S NOTE: Unless you plan to leave the screen on all the time, then you should not be concerned about burn-in. Even so, you could you use a screen saver or auto-shutoff feature on the PC end to minimize these concerns and save energy,

Hi, Bob. I have a Hp Pavilion DV6000 Laptop and we also have a RCA HDTV Model # D52W23 big screen projection TV. Is it possible with these devices to make our TV into a Computer monitor?

EDITOR'S NOTE: It should be possible. See what kind of video outputs you have on the laptop (VGA, DVI, S-Video, etc.) and then try to match it up to the inputs on your TV. You may need some sort of adapter cable. See pix of the various connectors here: http://askbobrankin.com/buying_an_hd_tv.html

I Have a 36 inch rca proscan tv.I would like to know what cables i would need to turn my tv to a moniter.on the back of the tv it fits rca and s video wires.if its possible can i hook up the tv and the computer moniter to my computer.

EDITOR'S NOTE: It all depends on your computer's video out options. If it has S-Video OUT, you can use a simple S-Video cable. Otherwise, you'll need an adapter from whatever you have to S-Video.
