I'm so glad you mentioned Gutenberg. This site typifies the sharing spirit of the Internet as much as ANY, and they've been around since before Al Gore!

Not only does your local public library probably offer ebooks, but audio books may be available as well. Both formats can be downloaded from your home computers and loaded on various players/readers. There are still some glitches with iPods and other Apple products because of formats and licensing. Check with your public library website and staff for help.

I get a lot of free books at manybooks.net. It is linked to my free iphone ebook reader. they have books in many formats.

Baen Books has a Free Library.

One can download a large number of their published books.

I'm in the process of reading about 7 of them.

Our e-book server just this week upgraded their service so that almost all of their free e-audiobooks are now Mac-compatible. Check with your local Library.
