Just a note to let everyone know the "Drop.io" free online FAX service is no longer in business. Apparently Facebook has bought them out and has shut the Drop.io site down.

You might want to add SmartFax to your list too. We switched to SmartFax (www.smartfax.com) from another online service to save money. SmartFax also has a free trial, then it's only $6.95/month. And if you're already saving what could be hundreds in phone service charges by using MagicJack, $6.95/mo is cheap to be able to fax anywhere in the world.

TANSTAAFL
That's an acronym for There Ain't No Such Thing As
A Free Lunch . . . long term. Wish they would use Free Trial instead.

Well, I don't send many faxes but when I do I use that. The only "hassle"(which is nothing) is I have to disconnect the router connection from the phone line & connect the onboard system, thanks.

As respects TPC, I have tried to use this service with no success. When I use the utility to check coverage, I'm told that I can send a fax to that number.

I use www.faxaway.com and they charge a flat $1.00 per month, billed to your cc every 10 months. If you do bulk faxing, it costs more but my use for years has been casual. You can send and receive faxes. You get your own phone number. They have software translators to handle all file types, so you never have to sweat pdf, tiff, jpg, etc. filetype nuances. Very easy to use.

A very nice roundup Bob. Thanks for my new bookmark.
I also noticed that FreeFax ( freefax.com ) has a nice list about international rates and your best options for free online faxing.

Lets see. Buy a fax and fax for free. Why should you have to sign up with a service?

EDITOR'S NOTE: Because it's not free. See http://askbobrankin.com/five_good_reasons_to_trash_your_fax_machine.html

Since I send mostly business-related faxes, I do not mind paying for a service that does it right. I have used Send2fax for years and am very happy with their service.

I tried Bell Canada's BellFax for several months, because it was cheaper, but went back to Send2fax. The Bell Caada service was unreliable, error-prone, and did not readily provide a confirmation record suitable for attaching to an Affidavit of Service.

Having said all that, I appreciate the comprehensive nature of your article and I might investigate some of the free options in the future.

My question would be..can you RECEIVE faxes from these services and if so how does THAT work since you will be faxing people who are not signed up to the same service you are?

I have been applying for at-home typing jobs and all employers require the "online" fax. I have Dish Network Internet and TV .. I have no land line. Can I still use this service?

EDITOR'S NOTE: Not sure what you mean. On the receiving end of the fax, there's no way to detect if it can from a real fax machine or a web-based fax service. Have you tried using FaxZero?

I have used free fax button and also myfax.com/free but these are only for outbound messages but I require free fax international number and also free international inbound and outbound fax service with no cost or no fees. My use is very less, I mean, one or two faxes in the entire month. Kindly advise me the name of the service provider that provides free international fax number and also free international inbound and outbound message service

I use Send a Fax Free online fax. They don't have advertising, support unlimited outbound faxes, and have more file formats than the others.
