Bob, you indicated that these are free software downloads, but for one, PCdecrapifier is not free if you want to use it for anything. It will scan the hard drive, yes, and identify problems, but it will not remove them or correct anything unless you pay for it and register. I don't think that software is free if this is the case!

EDITOR'S NOTE: I wouldn't do that to you... You must have clicked an ad on the PC Decrapifier site and downloaded the wrong program. Try again. Here's the exact link: http://pcdecrapifier.com/download

In your sugestions for frese software the last one "Advanced SystemCare....." did not offer a free version on the net, only a free download!! You missed it on that one Bob.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Ummm, I can't figure out what you mean. If there's a free download, it's on the net, right?

Nice choice of browser there, Bob ;-)

Two essentials I would add to your list are Comodo firewall and CCleaner, both freely available and excellent additions to any computer. Every machine I set up for family and friends is graced with these two, together with Mbam, Spywareblaster, Avast Anti Virus, Defraggler, Adobe Reader, QuickTime Player and GOMPlayer, these last two enabling one to play most types of music/video that will not play straight off on Windows Media Player without the addition of extra codecs.

Surprised you omitted OpenOffice...

EDITOR'S NOTE: As I said, there is another batch of 7 coming! :-)

I don't see a free download on Advanced System Care Free, just prices: $19.95, $19.95 & $29.95!
Is there another link?

I'd add Trusteer Rapport for logging into secure site, Secunia PSI for keeping everything updated, PDF Xchange viewer instead of the bloated Adobe, WinRAR, TClockEx for a nice clear time display with other features and Internet Time Update.zip to keep it accurate every hour, and pcpitstop.com to optimize; however I'm still looking for that browser check website that used to be on pcpitstop, I can't remember the name any idea?

Bob! your decrapifier link leads to confusion:

>I'm sorry, the page you've requested cannot be found.

But it still gives you the free download.

EDITOR"S NOTE: Here's the direct download link:

Thanks for the idea for LastPass. I think it's great. My email has been hacked numerous times and this program should keep that from ever happening again. THANK you!!

in response to PeteM, you can replace QuickTime - GOM and Windows media Player with VLC Player that one does it all and it`s free.

I don't see Microsoft Essentials. And, why do you think the cloud is a safe place to store your passwords?

I downloaded the Advance System Care and my Windows live email wouldn't open after I downloaded it and neither would IE Explorer, I had to do a SYSTEM RESTORE, to get everything back to working.

I am amazed that you do not include PC Matic from PC Pitstop to do all the things Advanced system Care free does. I know it is not free, but it does do an excellent job. Also you did not mention the free CCleaner, which I use every time, before turning off my Computer.

Bob.. I hope you have looked at Abiword lately.. The writer has kept up with, and is compatible to all of Microsoft's odd changes like the new docx format. It is free and a great word processor if that is what you think a laptop is for. to e.rider. I have loaded advance system care on everything and it has always been free. (the basic version) Some of the utilities spun in with it like the smart defragger are not always the best. Sorry, Malware Bytes is not always the best choice since confliker or the "fake antivirus" infections (and other virus') learn how to disable it. Avast AV has done a lot on the malware fight for an all around good AV.

Your line....It's true... when you get a new computer, it usually comes loaded with a bunch of software you don't want or need. Most of them are free trials or crippled versions, designed to get you to upgrade to a paid version
Well, the FIRST thing to do is DUMP the Operating system and install Ubuntu
I've got a PB that's 5 years old and was going to buy a new one next year (2012) which would have cost me £1,200.00 INCLUDING WINDOWS 7. I found Ubuntu and it's given my PC a NEW LEASE OF LIFE. It's MUCH faster now that it EVER was under Windows and EXTENDED it's life by probably MORE than ANOTHER 5 YEARS

I recommend (and install) Advanced System Care Free for my clients because it works well, is free, and is VERY easy to use. With most clients, ease and simplicity of use is important.

Everyone seems to have their favorite media player, but for me, Media Player Classic (MPC) w/the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack (http://download.cnet.com/K-Lite-Mega-Codec-Pack/3000-13632_4-10794603.html?tag=mncol;1)easily beats GOM, VLC & of course WMP.

I'll give IrfanView a try, even though I don't do much editing.

Looking forward to your next list.
