It's important to specify the GVoice platform when posting... both the desktop and phone interfaces are completely new.

The "legacy" option is only available in the desktop interface. It's not possible to revert the phone interface and, imho, it's worse than the new destop versions. In addition settings verbage has changed and can be misleading.

I only use G-Voice for international contact. International texting was previously unavailable, so I wonder if that has been enabled in the "new" version. That would be "nice"!

All of this is hogwash to me. If I need to contact a person I will call them. Sometimes I might e-mail them if I need a thoughtful reply and am not in a hurry for an answer. Anything else is simply b.s. (at least in my opinion.)

Today, Friday, a day after you posted this article, on the Legacy page I don't find a "big red CALL button" - instead there's this:
Get a Voice number

When I click it, I get this message:

You can choose a brand new number from Google or use your existing mobile number to get the full set of Google Voice features, like:
one number that rings all your phones
online voicemail with transcriptions, sent to you by email or text
custom greetings and call blocking, and much more

Looking around their Help screens just confused me more. Have they linked Legacy back to the new Voice now and taken away the Call feature? I'm not sure how I made phone calls last year using Google Voice without a "special" phone number! My settings don't show any linked phones.

My friend and I gave up on Hangouts awhile back by switching to Skype which then kept dropping our calls (audio and/or video). So last time we used free Zoom after learning that one-to-one "conference calls" are free and unlimited in time (https://zoom.us/pricing)! Try it! (We use it on our desktops.)

Too many cooks spoil the broth - Et tu, Google? Remember the k.i.s.s principle!

Hate the new interface. It's cumbersome and counter intuitive. I use the legacy setting each time I log in, but it's loading slower and any changes I make (like blocking and such, stick on a spinning cursor for a long time). I wish there was a way to lock the legacy interface in for good and use it exclusively without the need to constantly switch back to it. At least until Google pulls its head out and creates an interface worthy of the name, that is......

You have it right Gary in SE Wisconsin why would Google want to improve Voice when it was so simple to use the way it was especially for us Seniors how non understanding of all ages in the general public. Gary you r right the kiss principle so TRUE. GOOGLE WE R ALL NOT 21 YEARS OLD ANY MORE. We were not raised with this technology. Think of how it affects us Seniors.

Without 'Notes,' it's just another phone service. Have used it since 2011. Will likely be moving off before they shut 'Legacy' down.

The new interface is jarring. With the ability to write a note about the call, it'd at least be useful.

As it is now and going forward, don't see a lot of value.

Hi Bob, Thank you forever for your very clear description of what’s wonderful in Legacy GV, vs the wretched new Voice. Now that Google is going to totally disable the great Legacy version (by Aug. 11, 2020), and force us to use the new Voice, I am in serious grieving. Have you found any comparable software to Legacy Voice? Much appreciated, Zi
