The AskBobRankin Geekly Update

Facebook recently announced Places, an app that lets you see where you are, see who is near you and see what's going on around you.

Verizon is planning to launch an iPad app early next year that will allow FiOS subscribers to view TV on it within their own home.

Facebook has launched another new app they call "your window into what's new at Facebook." Facebook Live will feature what is going on in the company, including special events and interviews.

Dell has announced the release of the Streak, an Android-powered 5" tablet. With a touch screen display, UMTS/GPRS/EDGE support, WiFi, front (VGA) and rear (5MP) cameras and 2GB of internal storage, you can get your hands on one for $299.99 from AT&T with a 2 year contract.

For a mere $.99, you can get the app CineCrop, which will turn any picture you take and recreate it in Anamorphic style, just like a real filmmaker. It can also turn images into other aspect ratios, including 16mm film, 35mm widescreen and 16x9 HDTV.

Clearwire's 4.33 x 2.44 x 0.71" iSpot allows iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad users to find their own 4G wireless connection with a range of up to 150 feet. After an initial purchase price of $99.99, $25 a month gives you unlimited usage for up to 4 hours at a time per charge.

Logitech is about to launch another wireless mouse/keyboard combination for the mini-price of $59.99. The Combo MK520 is an ergonomically correct full size keyboard with concave keys and the laser mouse works in either hand and has soft rubber side grips.

Perhaps in a fit of paranoia, Intel has bought McAfee for over $7.6 billion. Should we be looking for the "McAfee Inside" logo soon?

If you have the constant need to search for celebs online, most notably such as Cameron Diaz, Julia Roberts or Jessica Biel, McAfee warns that malware may be attached to some sites that feature those celebs. Others included on that list are Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Heidi Klum and Jennifer Love Hewitt.
