Yes. The regular land line at my house is a Magic Jack, and you will never know unless somebody tells you.

I used two MJs for several years and gave them away for presents for the Christmas/Hanukkah holidays. When I tried to cancel one, it was a major, major issue. It took me two months, eight weeks, to finally stop the charges after I canceled, and only after I threatened them with notifying my state attorney general. It wasn't an idle threat. I know how to take a legitimate complaint to the state. I finally cancelled that the other one because I was that put out by their continued billing after I canceled. To those who received them as gifts, I notified them about the issue to mitigate any future embarrassment for giving them as gifts. I like the product, but their customer service and ruse to keep you from cancelling is not becoming of a good company.

I tried it and had horrible reception. I'm afraid to try again.

Anyone that is paying a phone company hundreds of dollars a month is stupid. I have used MJ for 8 years and i wouldn't take for it. I love it and it's cheap. I even have call forwarding, call waiting, and caller id.Everything the phone company charges high dollar for comes with MJ. If you want to save money get rid of the dollar grabbing phone companies and get MJ.All you need is WIFI.You don't have to have a computer. They are upgrading MJ all the time and it is becoming something that will put the thieving phone companies out of business. Oh and you can download an app for your iphone for free.It also includes texting free of charge.

I have used Majick Jack and so did my sister and we live in a area that is rural and it did not work well at all. Calling tech support was a very bad experience and it (at that time) messed up my computer terribly so, Being a computer tech I did not like that at all.

I called tech support and got absolutely no where with then, it was as if they heard not one word I said, they were foolish and stupid, I will never buy another, I am not going through that with them again. Turning it over to a attorney suddenly all got fixed and I closed the account, now why could they not do that in the first place. Bad company, but those who do use it, if your happy and have not had a problems with it, have at it, but for me, never again.... !

Good Article. I'm pretty well sold on the MajicJack product. It preformed great and free calls in and out while I was on the other side of the world in 2009. I was surprised when ATT UVERSE finally caught up with Voip. I was thinking why are we installing this when Majicjack is already doing it?
If I ever travel like that again I will not be without it.

Have the magicjack. Mostly happy with it. Cost is so low it is great.Couple things that are just annoying. 1.calls drop when you are on the call for over an hour. 2.long distance calls also drop. 3.I cannot call a certain phone number, only one cell phone number. don't know why. 4.person on receiving end of my calls says my voice is very faint. 5.with call waiting on, the other caller can hear the beeping, not so good if on a business call. 6.Voicemail is okay. but you have no way to know you have a message. all i could find was to set up a message to go to email and then you have to remember to check email. also have to remember to call voicemail. anyone have solutions to the issues I am experiencing?

I have had Majicjack since it came out. I had a few minor issues the first year or two but those issues were nothing compared to the ones I had when I was on AT&T. Plus, for the couple of times I had to call Majicjack, I found that their customer service was a hell of a lot better than AT&T's. The service has improved even more and I have not had a single problem in at least 3 years. I love it and would never go back to the traditional landline. Hell no. No way. That's for idiots. And people that have money to burn.

I have used MJ for more than 12 years. Their customer service lacks in many ways but somehow the price has outweighed the problems, The first was small and required unplugging and replugging in the USB port at the first sign of a problem. I bought one for home , one for work, and three more for nephews. Then when the new MJ go came out I ordered two of those. but they did not work as well as the small first MJ but pluggging and unplugging destroyed one USB unit so I am down to one USB port. So after I went back to the small first MJ and customer service ported my number to it. When I renewed the serial numbers did not match and I renewed the wrong one , so customer service could not change it and sent me another MJ Go and charged me $59.95 to my credit card. now I have one I use and three broken ones. But still ahead $$ , the training these customer service or tech reps get must be very limited as they have to read from manual for every problem to solve. One thing I learned was it likes Internet explorer and Firefox and if you use those you will have less problems. I wish I could find a source for the first $19.95 model as it worked the best. I was spending $600.00 a year for phone.

Thank you for a great explanation about Magic Jack. I went nuts and bought my wife one as well. So for 3.34 a month (total) we have our own phone systems and they work just great. We have been using for years now and even my wife is good with it. The phone app works well as well but then we now have Whatsapp and Facebook and Google talk etc to talk with as well. Where will it end I still find it difficult to convince dedicated / hardcore land line users to switch. They still feel better being ripped off by the old line telcos. Thanks again

Is there a way for magicJackGO to work if it is connected to the computer when the computer is not on? Also, is there a way to have my magicJackGO NOT show my phone number when making calls?

EDITOR'S NOTE: No, but you can plug the device into your router, instead of the computer.

Yes, I have plugged the mJ connecting wire into my router. Does the "No" also refer to the "NOT show my phone number" question?

EDITOR'S NOTE: Not sure about the caller id question, sorry.

We have used MJ for 8 years and very satisfied with it. You can also get the FREE apps for Smartphones and iPhones that allow you to text for free. My hubby uses his Samsung cell with NO cell service and as long as he can hook up to Wi Fi,the MJ app works and his cell phone sounds crystal clear, all free. Magi Jack has been our landline phone service at home for over 8 years!

Love my MJ plugged into my router. Every once in a while(maybe every 6 months or so) for some reason, the MJ will go offline and get lost. Simply unplug for a minute and get back online. I too have a 1500UPS backup for my big screen tv and plugged the router and MJ in for AWESOME no delay power for my phone calls and internet connectivity for hours on end if the power goes out.

Does it work when you need to call 911.

Yes, I think 9-11 can be made from the magic jack but you will be charged additional cost once you register your address where you want the 9-11 calls to be used for.

I have been using Magic Jack for the last several years& I have had NO problems whatsoever, the speech is crystal clear also hardly any drop outs. Even to other countries after subscribing the calls are clear. I am very happy with my Magic Jack, my only grudge is that it used to be 20 bucks now its USD$35/-

MAGICJACK COMMENT/ sidenote: If your computer connection has a UPS (battery power supply type surge suppression), you also get the advantage of not losing house phone during short power outages. NOTE:(NON-BATTERY Surge suppressor only power strip will not give you this feature)

MJ can only be as good as your internet connection. I've had excellent service from both. MJ has been my home phone service since 2010. I've already committed for the next 5 years. By the time it's time to anti up again, I'll be in my 80's - Hopefully.

I gotMagic Jack a year ago and just extended for 5 more years. Despite instructions saying not to plug into house system, i plugged into my house phone and it feeds to the main line where my wireless phone is plugged in. Works great! Only problem is that I can't block calls or anonymous or blocked numbers or ANY number, in fact. Any suggestions?
