I have used Iolo's System Mechanic for about 10 years now. $30 for all my household computers (have had up to 10 at once). And a $30 annual fee which you can get cheaper if you renew early. IoBit always was worth less than their asking price, lots of flash to hide the seemier side of their product.

I have often wondered about this product (PC Matic). Glad to get this review from a pro.

I wish you had done this before I renewed my Norton 360.

I installed PC Matic a few years ago and subsequently emailed a tech who has a column in the Houston Chronicle. He answered me with two words, "Its junk." So, on his advice I requested a refund from PC Matic. The refund was almost immediate. I had purchased a five license deal for a lifetime. Now, after your review, I think I will try them again.

I used PC Matic when it was free for several years, and I also "donated" money to them, same as I do for Spybot which I like a lot. I did purchase a spybot license some time ago, and I also purchased a 5 license Evergreen from PC Matic. I am very happy with both products. Good luck with all your traffic on the Interwebs!

We have had PCMatic for several years. It has worked beautifully. When I have a problem with a bulky computer, I start with PCMaTic. If it is not solved, I go to Glary Utilities. Those two usually solve it.I recommend both.

I have the Evergreen lifetime subscription to PC Matic for about two years now. Recently, I've been having issues with my laptop and was told by a pc repair pro not to use PC Matic because they don't offer a firewall like Mcafee and Norton do. They talked me into uninstalling PC Matic and installing McAfee instead. Have any of you out there had issues with PC Matic having no firewall? It seems to me PC Matic SHOULD have a firewall, but I cannot confirm this. Thanks for any info/insight. I would rather use PC Matic since I have a liftetime membership and McAfee is so expensive, $380 a year for the full suite.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Firewall is included with Windows. No need to add a third-party firewall.

I took the steps you just described for yourself six years ago and never looked back, moving to Evergreen after my first flawless year. Uninstalling the virus protection programs was a major leap of faith, but, absent any failures along the way, I continue to experience flawless performance. One of my 5 computers is used by a family member in the Eastern Caribbean, for which I receive reports each time it runs a scan. Great peace of mind. Go for it....JB

A long time ago, PC Pitstop was famous for its process list. This was a list of processes you might find on your system, what product/company they were from, whether you they were safe, whether you could safely delete them, etc. Eventually they made the details of a process only available when you signed up for the paid version. I think that functionality may be included now in PC Matic.

You can see how they evolved from turning a list of all processes into a white list technology for anti-malware. However, with a relatively small staff, as software gets updated, I don't know how they well they can keep their white list current vs. the big guys (Symantec, McAfee, Trend-Micro, Microsoft, Bitdefender, Kaspersky, etc.)who have more resources.

I have not been particularly impressed with PC Matic. I tried it once (several years back) and don't use it now. As I think you have mentioned in some of your articles, most cleanup utilities aren't really necessary and most don't speed up your system.

Seriously? PC optimizer? Antivirus that never have been at test among other well known antivirus programs by independent test company? Without free trial? I feel I am reading a sort of Cosmopolitan for PC users... Sad...

OMG! BOB! It's about time you tried PC Matic. I have been using it for about 15 years or since the beginning. I, and some of your other subscribers have mentioned them before with no comment from you. I could never figured why you never compared them to any of your other Antimalware or Antivirus programs. After paying $50 for it for a couple of years I knew that the $150 Evergreen option was the best option. I use 4 of the licenses on my computers and sometimes use the fifth on a friends computer to fix it. When used like that, you have to wait 60 days before you can use that license on a different computer. I believe it has been the best buy in computer programs ever.

Thanks for this review. I think you may have reviewed cCleaner before. I wonder how PCMatic cleanup compares with cCleaner and its Registry and Tools. I am not sure I want to give up MalwareBytes. Anyone have an opinion?

I've been using PCMatic for years.
It's always worked well for me (7) computers and tablets have their program on them that are "EverGreen". It's been a great investment, I just wish that they would develop the platform to include Apple products.

I have been an "Evergreen" user of PCMatic for several years, and am grateful for your review.since it is in substantial agreement with my own experience.

BOB, will you stick a note in your calendar to give us an update on your experience with PCMatic in a few months? I'd like to get your opinion at that point and then decide whether or not to buy, rather than forking over $50 now.

... No offense to your other readers who report good experience with PCMatic. I'd just like to get your SEASONED opinion before making a switch. :-)

I purchased PCMatic and had it running on two HP computers, but from the start, experienced MASSIVE slowdowns in both browser and email, and even running other applications. PC Matic just seemed to get in the way of EVERYTHING and really slowed my computer down. I suspected PCMatic was the culprit, and turned it "off" to see, and as I expected, all that freezing, crashing, slow operations, etc. STOPPED.

So I UNINSTALLED PCMatic and when they came at me wanting to renew it, declined to do so. I'm now using a combination of Super-Anti-Spyware, C-Cleaner and Avast anti-virus, and no longer have any of the problems I experienced while I was running PCMatic!

I, too, would like some comparison to CCleaner. I use ESET NOD32 Antivirus, and it seems to work well. My "problem" is that after I run CCleaner, it wipes whatever log is stored on my PC regarding the last scan by ESET. So, I run CCleaner, and now ESET begins its scan all over again, even if it scanned just prior to running CCleaner.

I have been using PCMatic for about ten years now and had opted for the Evergreen option a few years ago. I don't think I can expand on what Bob has written, I think it's that good.
