had Consumer over 5 years and been VERy HAPPY with them! not one to keep track of data, so last yr when looking for new house/location, I went over my limit, not realizing what I used - they will auto bump you to next level - explained what happened, they asked me if I wanted to stay or go back to level I first selected to keep bill low - they did what I asked! plus 5% discount from AARP, customer service is fabulous, and dont have any problems with cell service anywhere!! LOVE THESE FOLKS!

After reading a glowing review, I changed from ATT to CC and dropped my bill from $75 to $35 per month with a higher data allowance. Since I'm on WiFi much of the time and don't use my phone for streaming, the data allowance is sufficient, but if I go over, the extra cost will be $5 instead of $15. With the exception of a couple of lost SMS that I haven't yet confirmed, the service has been the same. The customer service people who helped with the transition were kind, patient, very efficient, and spoke my kind of English. I'm a very happy customer!

I have a similar service with Greatcall that has the Jitter Bug flip phone.I like the large buttons on the set and the low monthly rate.Since I use the telephone for voice,it is perfect for my needs. I do not need texting or internet access, hence the low rate.

Very satisfied with CC, for several years. Don't use the phone much, so I love the cost and customer service is top notch. Some of the texts arrive hours late occasionally which gets me in trouble with my wife. Not sure if that's on them or Apple.

If your usage requirements are very low you may do better price wise with TING.
They have excellent US based customer service both on the phone and via chat.
It is $6 per line, then $3 each for each shared 100 minutes (including calls to 60+ countries at no extra cost for those minutes), or 100 texts or 100MB mobile data. Use more? It just costs another $3 per 100. And sharing them on all lines keeps the cost down. You can also set up alerts to show your usage when it gets close to the 100.
We went over by one minute last month and without us asking or even giving it a thought, they reduced it to 100 minutes on the bill.
As low users we save a fortune.

I should have written on my previous post that it was an article by Bob on TING that got us to move to them.
Thanks Bob!

I've been using Tracfone for over 10 years. Great price for service, rollover for unused minutes, no problems with custom service. A challenge for Consumer Cellular for sure.

Once an AT&T captive victim years, actually decades (phone line maintenance fee, remember that gouge?) I stayed because of the $15 or less monthly bill. Despite repeated attempts by AT&T to sell me on a plan that would've doubled my cost I stayed with my measly $15/mo but left when Canadian calls still cost $1/minute when other outfits (T-Mobile) did not charge such exorbitant rates. Over time I could never justify T-Mobile after their rates rose so migrated to CC and have remained loyal ever since. Customer service is excellent.

A couple years ago my $65 a month landline was always on the fritz and no satisfaction from Frontier. Ported my landline # to a Consumer Cellular flip ($30) and unlimited talk and text ($27 a month with AARP discount). Recently upgraded to a reman iPhone SE for $300. Even though it's only used for talk and text, it's much easier to text on a smart phone. Support is good with the Chat feature on the website, but you are going to wait. I was 68th in line but the wait was only about 5 minutes. No regrets whatsoever. My old cell was ported to Google Voice (FREE) and that is forwarded to the CC cell. Two phone #'s for $27 a month.

I have heard a lot of very good reviews for Consumer Cellular, but I am a LifeLine user (low income senior citizen), and (AFAIK) they do not provide that service.

My issue with LifeLine providers is that I do not know which ones do a good job, or provide decent customer service. Are there any rating services I can use to find a good provider (I am on my third one)? They all start out O.K., but after a time things seem to go downhill.

I do not use a lot of minutes, texts or data. All I want is a smart phone that I can use for emergencies (car break-down, power outage, etc.), play Solitaire when waiting for my Son to finish the grocery shopping (he goes in - I do NOT), and 2FA. I don't mind making the monthly call to keep my service active, but my last provider seemed unable to verify that I had completed the re-authorization with the National Verifier Service so I switched. I do not like switching because my cell number has to change each time.

An article listing Web sites I can use to do my own research would be very useful.

I've been a Tracfone customer for many, many years, and except for always having problems when trying to change to a new phone, I feel like I've gotten my money's worth as a casual user. (I'm on the Verizon network.)

During last years's Super Bowl, Mint Mobile (a T-Mobile MVNO) ran a special 3-months free deal, followed by unlimited calls and texts with 3GB of data for $15 per month. My phone signal isn't as strong as with Tracfone/Verizon. Overall the price is a little higher, but I no longer have to keep a watch on how many minutes I've used or how many texts I've sent and received. I've yet to use the 3GB of data thanks to being on Wi-Fi most of the time. Mint also offers credits if you refer others. Refer 5 people and they'll give you a year's service with 8GB of data for free. Want to help me? Click the following link and you'll get $15 added to your Mint account:

I switched to Mint Mobile over 2 years ago and am extremely happy. $15 per month for Unrestricted calls and texting, Data at 3 gb/month. Fabulous service. Was a bit disturbed once when I found I had no service at my sons place near Moosehead Lake in the "Big Woods" of upper Maine until I realized not having access was a blessing in disguise... after all I was there to get away from everything and relax. If I really needed to make a call I could drive several miles to the nearest town. While there I could have an adult beverage (or 2) at the Stress Free, a local place where I can converse with some great local people. I also use an internet service for a landline at home (and on the road) from Magic Jack. This costs $32 per year.

I recently switched to Mint Mobile. Unlimited talk and text and 3 GB of data for $15 a month. You do have to pay the year in advance otherwise it is $20 a month. Mint is also an MVNO and uses the Tmobile network. Can't beat the price. So far the customer service has been pretty good. As good as what I had with Tmobile. You can also get discounts when you refer the service and a new user signs up.

I have ATT for landline. It's horrible because 90% of incoming are robocalls, scams, charities or political, and ATT does nothing to filter the mess. Have Great Call for cell usage which is fine, except for the irritating charges for unwanted incoming msgs, and the clumsy way of deleting them. So, "No" I don't love my phone company(s).

I absolutely love "TELLO!" I pay only for what I use, get free calls to my daughter in Canada, and have saved a LOT of money since switching from Sprint. (I pay less than $10/month!)

For years and years a Tmobile customer 100/mo 2 phones unlimited talk and text no data. Then your article on budget mobile providers. Went with Republic Wireless now unlimited talk and text 10/mo and Unlimited talk and text w/data 20/mo for a total of 30/mo Great coverage (sprint network) However, no dial up customer service only online but quick responses....Thanks Bob!!

We tried CC several years ago (Detroit area) and kept getting one way audio: called party couldn't hear us. Worked with customer support for over two months, got new phones, switched carriers from Sprint to AT&T, no joy. I really wanted them to work, but finally canceled within the 90 day trial. Went with T-Mobile and haven't looked back.

I was a long time satisfied customer of CC until AlticeMobile offered service. Depending on their advert timing it is either $20 or $30 per month per line for unlimited EVERYTHING (minutes, text, and data). They include service to and within 35 foreign countries so if you travel like me it saves additional expense and perhaps a new SIM. Since Altice also owns Optonline/Cablevision which I use I receive an additional discount along with a reduction for automatic credit card invoice payment.
