I understand that in order to convert a VHS tape with a copyright i need to get a stabilizer. I'm in Canada and i have checked quite a few websites and dont seem to find it anywhere. I see them on US websited but they are way over my budget.

Someone mentioned connecting my VCR to my TV and then connecting my TV to my dvd recorder and recording it directly off the TV. I was under the impression that TV's only have input connections and no outputs. Am i right on thinking that? I have a Panasonic DVD recorder and it has 2 inputs and one output. But i only see inputs on my Sony TV. How can i convert my kids Disney movies to DVD for personal use only?

EDITOR'S NOTE: Sounds like you'll need a different TV with Video Out ports. But I'm not sure that will even work.

To copy Macrovision protected VHS tapes (Disney, etc) use a VHS player from a country that does not have companies that own movie studios. Think Samsung (South Korea) and not Sony (Japan).

Hi- I can record from VHS to DVD ok but some recordings result in a "Jitery" picture(wavy areas) also apparent in the monitor(TV screen) while I'm recording. Is this a part of the "anti-copy" process on some VHS tapes or another issue? Would buying the Sima part(GoDVD!)from Best Buy/Circut City fix this? Thanks in advance for a reply.

Just find a good older VHS machine. The manufacturers were not forced to install Macrovision on their machines until some point in the mid-90s. Though some did voluntarily before they were forced to, not all of them did.

I had a late 80s VHS vcr that would record content with Macrovision with no problems. I had to buy a new VCR in about 1996 after that one died, and it did have Macrovision detection, and I was unable to do tape-to-tape transfers after that if the source tape had Macrovision.

hello, i'm also looking for the solution for the disney copyright thing, and i have seen the solution for the gadget you put between your vrc and your dvd player but i have one of those dual units that has the vcr and the dvdr in he same unit. will the stabilizer/sima thing work for me too? or is there ANY other way to do it? Help! i just want some little mermaid! :)

Regarding the longevity of the new digital media. Working in a museum, I too am skeptical of our ability to reproduce obsolete technology in the future. Has anyone tried taking a turn-of-the-century cylinder record to a service bureau for copying? Good luck! Most archivists and document specialists despair of having any records of the 21st century for just this reason and still stand by microfilm as the best message of preservation.

I'm finally taking the time to preserve my videos to DVD. They range from 8mm family movies from the 60s to VHS-C videos and MinDVs. I have a mechanical converter to play the VHS-C sized videos but am noticing a lot of them are not tracking correctly. The newer VHS players dont having manual tracking available so do I have to hunt down an old one or is there a way to correct this? I want to copy to DVD but I cant copy them all "mal-tracking" like this...any suggestions? Is there a really good recording VHS/DVD unit that can do this easily for my technochallenged self?

I just purchased a Sony VX525 DVD Recorder/VCR Combo and am trying to combine content from multiple VHS tapes onto a single DVD. Is this possible? I am using DVD+R discs, and I have not finalized my disc yet. I thought it would be simple to do but my record features go away when I take out my VHS tape and insert a new one. I have a vice 1000 macrovision remover and it did not work on a Disney pal VHS on 2 DVD players I had.

please help me! i had the honestech vhs to dvd converter 3.0 deluxe, and it's the best thing ever.. i can do whatever i want with it,, but the problem is, i changed my PC to a MAC.. nfortunately, my software doesnt work for a mac. now i cant find a software that is similar to the honestech vhs to dvd that i had.

i tried eyeTV and all that, but it's not what i want, because it catches on signal channels and program guides and such, and i dont want that. i want something that wud record my TV to my computer, without the signal program guide thing.. just directly. so when i watch a VHS and its on my tv screen, i can record that.

pleaseeeee helpppp! just a MAC software that records LIVE tv, not depending on the programming channels stuff.. just direct from my TV. pleaseeeeeeeeee helpppp!!
