Vonage has an outgoing fax service in Alpha testing that is 'free' for customers on their 'unlimited plan'. v-fax.vonage.com Sadly, I've not gotten it to work yet. I'm looking for an outgoing service that will let me fax 10 or 20 pages of medical receipts to my health savings plan administrator. |

Faxzero has increased there premium service cost to $1.99 per fax (via Paypal). But they also increased the maximum number of pages from 10 to 15. Altogether a better deal than using $4 gas to get to the local Kinkos and paying their per page charge to fax 15 pages. |

There is a service where you can receive faxes by email; I've ben using it for years and have my own fax number, which goes straight to my email. It's called eFax. It's worked great -- I just put my fax number on something as if I have a fax machine, and the fax shows up (as a .tif file I think) in my email. |

Can anyone please comment on the security of using this type of service when sending or receiving content sensitive documents?? EDITOR'S NOTE: It has the same security level as email, which is little to none. But that's really no different than sending a fax over a regular telephone line. It's also possible to tap into a phone line and intercept a call or fax transmission. |

ANDY! Your posting does not include a URL. IF you refer to the service at eFAX.com, it will be required since it appears they DO NOT offer a 'FREE' fax service - as far as I can tell. EDITOR'S NOTE: eFAX.com does offer a free 30-day trial. See http://askbobrankin.com/free_internet_faxing.html |

Not wanting to wade through all the choices myself, I'll ask this quickie -- which if any of these allow you to fax *.BMP files? *.JPG? *.GIF? Thanks... |

I had a free "30 day" trial with MaxEmail (I'm using quotes because the trial lasted much longer than that)and then signed up for their most basic service, "Max E-mail Lite." It allows me 100 inbound fax pages a month, and a nickle a page after that. Outbound, to anywhere in the US, costs a nickle every 30 seconds they transmit. I'm with them a few years now; they fit my needs perfectly and I've found them extremely reliable. I highly recommend them. Read up on them at www.maxemail.com |
