Wow, tough act to follow. Anyway. I totally agree with the Network Administrator (Ace; August 28, 2006 07:55 PM). As an IT student who's currently studying networking, my college has experienced severe bandwith problems (over the past two weeks) to the point that my Programming and A+ classes couldn't cover half the material. The main culprits were other students were downloading material on MySpace and music-related sites. Besides, I though the purpose for school is to learn, not to learn to illegally hack or break into the network, which of course, cause numerous security issues. To Jack (November 21, 2006 01:07 PM): Bottom line is: Neither porn or MySpace are school-related, thus it's hard to justify one from the other. |

It's a school's prerogative to set up an internet usage policy. They have every right to mandate use of their network resources. If kids don't like that, chalk it down to valuable experience for work - most jobs that have internet access also have internet policies in place. Secondly, its not a librarians job to babysit kids who would otherwise be blocked from accessing sites at school or home. While Librarians are there to help you find reading resources, they also have to make sure the resources are available to everyone. If you want to socialize, you should do it in private, not using a system dedicated for academic use. And finally, kids who claim their constitutional rights are being taken away, also seem to forget those rights are extended to legally -aged citizens of the US. If you're a minor, you have no rights. Your parents and other adults charged with your welfare have the right to set limitations for your protection and to insure the safety of everyone. If you don't like that - tough. When you're 18, you can petition congress to change the age laws. Thank you. |

Whats so wrong with myspace or anything else to acually block it? At my school, almost everything is blocked; from myspace to music... EDITOR'S NOTE: Most likely excessive bandwidth demands from those sites is the real problem... |

i dont know what you people are talking about but myspace can keep you in touch with friends family and you can reconnect with people you havent seen in a long time so if you want to block myspace or ban it forever its not going to work |
