Will said: "Think about this the next time you object to administrators banning myspace at home: They are doing what they can to protect you, as they are legally bound to do so."

OK, Will, I'll bite. Kid's can libel people on Myspace. They can meet predators on Myspace. Here's an idea. Going outside to play is potentially damaging. There are all kinds of dangers. I challenge you to explain to me how using MySpace is more dangerous for a fourteen-year-old than going outside unsupervised. I'll bet you can't, because it isn't.

Busybodies such as yourself believe that schools have the right to ban even the use of MySpace in the home, as it is potentially damaging. Fine. Then following the logic above, schools should be able to ban students going outside unsupervised. Of course, they'll never do that, because anyone with half a brain realises that it's up to the parents. I would say that so is MySpace use.

Frankly, the school should stay out of general activities outside of the school - those are up to parents. If kids are libeling people online, sure, talk to their parents, and fix the situation. For general activities (such as having a MySpace account, or going outside to play for that matter), schools have no damn business interfering.

Now, repeat after me. When not at school, the child is the parent's responsibility. Bureaucracy does not belong in the home. The road to hell is paved with good intentions, especially where well-meaning bureaucrats who only want to 'protect our children' are concerned.
