Are you using the latest version of IE? I sort of vaguely recall that clearing the Address Bar addresses used to be an issue/problem with an older version of IE.

After doing what Bob tells you to do, sometimes you need to close then re-open the browser to make the address bar empty itself.

I've tried doing both and they don't work. I've always deleted internet files through the Tools/Internet Options/ Delete Cookies / Files. Say for example I type c...I'll get file locations that come out of my c drive that don't even exist anymore. How can I clear this out. Also if I type z for example. I'll get urls that begin with z. This is AFTER i've done both of the above. How do you clear this out?

EDITOR'S NOTE: I noticed after following these steps that the address bar still contains entries that appear in your Favorites. My guess is that you'd have to clear out old entries in Favorites to get rid of them in the Address bar.

How do you clear the address bar? Even if I type an A in the address bar I still get old searches.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Did you try ALL the steps above? What browser and operating system do you have?

same problem as others: when I type a letter in the address bar there is a drop down list of previous entries. I am the only one using the computor. I am trying to clean up from previous
users. Is there software or registry solutions?

EDITOR'S NOTE: As mentioned above, some older browsers will not clear the address bar. Also, be sure to close and restart the browser.

Hi, I have had the same problem and I dsicvered the reason and solution for it. In may case I went selectted "tools" then "internet options". I clicked on the "content" tab and clicked on the "autocomplete" button. There I disocvered that under "use autocomplete" the box next to "web addresses" was checked. You need to uncheck that, then under "clear autocomplete history" click the "clear forms button". This should take care of the problem and all the entries will be deleted.

I want to keep the addresses in my address bar but they are disapearing. do you know why?

EDITOR'S NOTE: Perhaps you have a setting to clear all private info when exiting the browser...

My internet explorer doesn't have a tools button or any kind of button on the top. What do I do to clear the history since those buttons aren't on there?

EDITOR'S NOTE: It's not a button, per se. Don't you have the standard "File / Edit / View / History / Bookmarks / Tools / Help" toolbar on your IE window?

Thank you Kelv, that solved the problem. Nothing worked before, because I used CC cleaner and didn't work, When I wrote the "a" all addresses with "a" appeared. No More auto-complete.
