I have over 100 m4p and about 3000 m4a and i want to convert them all into Mp3 into an external drive. I've played around with sound Taxi and looked into Noteburner. I've also seen the free softwares and the purchase ones. So i guess my question is. Is it better to just purchase a program or a free software enough? EDITOR'S NOTE: I think NoteBurner should work fine for that. |

I bought many songs through Musicmatch and Yahoo. I can no longer get a license to play my Musicmatch songs. Is there any way to get around this problem? I would use less than legal means to unlock my songs due to the fact that I paid for them and the provider has now locked me out from listening to them. EDITOR'S NOTE: Why can't you play the Yahoo Music (Musicmatch) songs any more? |

Musicmatch no longer downloads media usage rights when I click on one of my songs to play or burn. The server is no longer active; therefore I can't play or burn my songs that were purchased through Musicmatch. EDITOR'S NOTE: Musicmatch became Yahoo Music in 1994 and in 2007 Yahoo began migrating Musicmatch users to the Yahoo Music Jukebox with plans to discontinue the Musicmatch service on August 31, 2007. Sounds like you need to contact Yahoo for help getting your account straightened out. |

I have TunePat which is very wonderful for converting drm m4p to mp3. The converting speed is amazing faster. To my surprise, it can batch convert more than one thousand songs at a time in iTunes! Strongly recommended! |

Using Martijn's idea I wrote the following script to convert all .wav files (though obviously the extension is arbitrary) into .mp3 files. At least on my system, the 'vlc:quit' portion didn't work -- according to vlc's man page, it should be 'vlc://'. Also, below I tweaked the 'ab' parameter to 1024, experimenting a little; I don't know if that's a legitimate bitrate for this format, and maybe it's my imagination, but I think the files sounded slightly better. --- #!/bin/bash #Specify extension here. FORMAT='.mp3' for INDX in *.wav do #sed parses out the actual filename FILE=$(echo "$INDX" | sed -n "s/^\([^.]*\)\.[^.]*$/\1/gp") #Copy file vlc -vvv "$INDX" --sout "#transcode{acodec=mpga,ab=1024,channels=2}:duplicate{dst=std{access=file,mux=raw,dst=\"$FILE$FORMAT\"}}" vlc://quit > /dev/null done echo -e "Exorcising DRM demons...\n\n" #Remove all .wav files... rm *.wav sleep 1 echo "Done.\n" |

I use Freecorder, a free tool that simply records the output of your sound card and converts it to mp3. Just play a WMA file in MediaPlayer and Freecorder does its thing on the fly, whether the file is DRM protected or not. Quality suffers, as the file is converted from digital to analog in the sound card, then back to digital and compressed to mp3. But I mainly use it for listening to WMA audio books on an iPod. |

After iTunes stoped selling DRM protected music, most of this software became unusefull. As file format converters they are not perfect. What I found great is sofware pack that comes from http://media-converter.info |

I'd love to use some of this free decoder software, but I'm finding it quite difficult. Two links in this article lead nowhere. And on the hymnproject page I'm finding the same. Please help. |

This is all well & good for music files. But you don't give any consideration to video files. What if I want to burn a movie I bought of iTunes to DVD? |

I used aimersoft media converter. Quoted from its website: I think its an all-in-one software which performs all round as DRM remover and music & video converter, fast and very easy to handle. |
