Great article Bob. Thank you.
I found the Apple app 'Radioplayer' to be really good for UK stations. I don't know if there is a US version, but I can get any of 100s of UK stations...for free.

I like www.softnezee.com for the softer side of the early rock & roll years. Really great playlists IMHO.

I really enjoy the online, Free Speech TV, for what's "really" going on in the world.

One I use a lot (can be accessed both from the website and from phone apps) is Tune-In Radio (tunein.com). It allows you to listen live stream to a ton of stations free. I use it to listen to my local NPR station when I am the gym.

If you are listening to music via WiFi on your laptop or tablet, you will probably want to have a good portable speaker. I use the Elegiant speaker, which is very light, fits easily into a suitcase or even backpack, and provides wonderful stereo sound. Used it on vacation in Mexico recently, where I was able to tune in Radio Canada's excellent Muse WiFi classical broadcasts. Available for US$30 from Amazon.

I also like TuneIn a lot. I listen to my favorite Irish radio station using it. The sound quality is good.

My favorite radio station to play through my computer is Accuradio. We gave up XM Satellite radio because of the price but Accuradio has filled that spot in my home and office. I just wish it could be accessed by my Echo :(

I use both iHeart and TuneIn, at least occasionally. Probably unlike most, I don't care for music stations, but I can get my (former state's) sports talk stations and some live games.

Hi Bob, another one no one listed is "DoowopRadio.com". Great stations for music of the 50s & 60s. Free and no commercials.

For European classical radio stations I like "listenlive.eu/classical.html". With this along with the VLC media player and you are all set up. ListenLive.eu also offers other genres and stations from all across Europe.

For authentic international radio stations, this link may work for some.

Along a similar vein, we have a pair of CCrane Internet Radios. Hundreds of AM and FM stations, including I-Heart, are preprogrammed in. They work like a standard tabletop with the ability to pre-program buttons for favorites. Audio is surprisingly good. Because we live on the fringes of reception we use them as bedside radios. I have Boston, LA, San Francisco favorites on the buttons. They come with a small remote.

Please give us more information on TALK / NEWS Radio! I do not listen to MUSIC, but love programs like the 1A on NPR. Would love to find sources for more shows like that!

Is it possible to provide a list of stations that Alexa would recognize and directions on how to access them? Thank You.

I have 2 that I listen all the time.
1) Jango: free with no commercials. You can pick your artist and get assorted music from that type.2) Radio tunes: Plays a variety of music. I chose American Claassic but at least 20 gendres to chose from.
There are 2 choices, pay and no commercials with better sound quality.
free with about max. 4 minutes every 40 to 60 minutes. Since I play on my cel, I can't tell the difference. this is onei use.

Tune-In Radio seems to work real well. I use it on a couple of Android devices; not sure if there is an iOS version.
