I have been using Arthur Imaging ink for about 4 years. I have been extremely happy with the results. I use a Canon MX922 printer and pay about $1.20 per cartridge for xl package. I print a lot of photos and side by side can't tell the difference. Until I have problems I'll stay with Arthur Imaging ink , because of results and PRICE!!

I use a Canon Photo printer (IP7220) which disables its software to print on DVD's and make cards and calendars if I use remanufactured ink. I specifically bought the printer for that expressed purpose.

Hasn't the task of printing become similar to the Luddite movement? Especially, in an era where U.S. has lost 1,800+ local newspapers since 2004 and remainder content has shrank significantly.
I normally buy my laser printers (b/w, color) when they are on super-sales. Usually, the included toner cartridges are one-third of the replacement (new) cartridge content. When the original toner finally runs out (every 3-4 years), I put the printer out to the curbside and replace the whole printer instead of just the toner cartridge!

As of May, 2019, Epson is going to join HP in pseudo - "updating" their printers to refuse third party cartridges. Of course there are ways to dodge this ploy, as you have pointed out in this article, but they will increase their profits.

I'm with RandiO. I do use my Epson OfficeJet Pro 8600, but Ink cartridges tend to last years so I prefer the guaranteed security of possibly overpriced OEM ink.
If a update glitch ever did render my printer useless I would be stuck without until I could get the replacement cartridges.

I'm repeating what a couple of people have already said above. Last year I printed an NCAA tournament bracket on my Epson printer in the morning, using discount ink cartridges. All was absolutely fine, as it always had been before. Around noon there was a firmware update, the second in maybe a month. Immediately after that I got a message saying, basically, my ink cartridges were no good. I now use a (very cheap) Canon printer. I'm waiting to see what it does when cartridge replacement time comes.

I used to knock a hole in an HP4 cartridge and pour toner into it and then cover it with a piece of duct tape. Worked great although it was a bit messy. Started doing this when I had a cartridge that didn't work but was full of toner. Those cartridges are huge.

I have been using TonerRefillKits.com since 2006. Always a reputable company to deal with and never any problems with their toner or ink cartridges. When my HP printer was no longer compatible with Win8 or so, I had to get a new printer. Called them and they suggested using a Brother printer as they are one of the few manufacturers who are still using software and drivers that don't lock you out, if using 3rd party cartridges.

I have been using ink cartridges from inkfarm.com for several years for my Canon MG5320 with no trouble. Prices are good and their service is fast.

James is right about Epson Workforce...actually, it's Epson in general, regardless of model. I had a very nice Artisan 810 that we put a CIS system on from Ink Products. Excellent outfit!...Well, we went out of town for 8 mos., came back and had our ISP turned back on and somehow Epson sneaked an update in and ruined the printer's processor. It's junk! So, we bought a Workforce WF-3640 that's not even in the same league as the Artisan 810. It guzzled down the genuine Epson cartridges. So, we bought some cartridges from LD Products, based on reviews, and we've had nothing but issues with the black ever since. Of note, on both Epson printers mentioned above, software and firmware updates were blocked. Somehow Epson knows exactly what their printers are doing. My Workforce 3640 has maybe an hour of print time on it and it's junk. Though highly rated, we'll not spend the money on a better Brother AIO... maybe check out an HP OfficeJet Pro and go back to Ink Products refillable cartridges or CIS. The whole printer affair is nothing but a money grabbing scheme, from my view. They're all Southeast Asian junk.

I've used refills at store (did not stay in business very long despite lot of commercial customers as well as individuals), on-line suppliers of alternative inks, & settled on LD (as good as OEM quality prints) but eventually had a problem. Got a new printer, different brand, all fine for few years, then problems. That was HP, Canon, & now Brother -- all end up the same and now quite sure it was software being updated to disable non-OEM cartridges. I can understand the business need to make profit but customer service and underhanded methods used to force us into OEM ink stink.

Incidentally, I uninstalled with REVO's highest mode, reinstalled from original disk but got same result. Suspect only full format of hard drive will get rid of those updated drivers that show non-OEM cartridges as empty when U can see plenty of ink. And now some cartridges are covered so thoroughly it's impossible to see the ink level.
