as i understand it m4v files are basically mp4 files with a different file extension. so to 'convert' an mv4 into an mp4 file you just have to change the name from 'example.m4v' to 'example.mp4' hope this helps

EDITOR'S NOTE: I believe that will work *if* there is no copy protection in the file.

Tunebite never caused me any problems and I use it for about 6 months, I use it to remove that DRM protection and to convert the audio and video files into the format I need. I find it a pretty cool tool

yer when you say that it removes the protection when you burn it. Couldnt you just burn it to a disc and drag & drop the files to your desktop and then convert it with a m4v to MPEG/AVI converter? If that works then you have a free way :D

EDITOR'S NOTE: Maybe... but what about the "burning is disabled for this track" problem?

I don't have only m4v files to convert, I have flv, dv, wav etc formats. For that I should take a lot of free software (one for each format) and there are formats that the free softwares don't convert. I did that before I took this Tunebite and I really didn't like cause I had 3 converters on my PC. So, I said to myself that it would be better just one converter who can convert all the formats I need.

I've tried converting a video that I bought from itunes through Tunebite but when I try to play it back it has recorded a screenshot showing the bottom half of my screen including Windows toolbar, about a fifth of my desktop (at the bottom), then the bottom of my itunes window, with the video playing in the bottom left hand corner. I'm sure I'm doing something really obvious wrong. Can anyone help? Thanks.

EDITOR'S NOTE: As I understand it, Tunebite tries to guess where the video player appears on the screen. Maybe changing the video resolution will help.

It is fine to convert m4v drm movies to any format,if you buy it,it is yours.apple has big balls to do what they are doing.I called them and told them, they said"they have no intent of removing the m4v file copy protection".I say $#%&*@#@@ apple and do not use itunes. If everyone stops using itunes then they might change.People who think it is criminal to convert a protected format are full of crap.Wh y should I be restricted to watching the movie on my computer instead of burning it to a disk??? All these hollywood knob slobbers need to go.

prefer to use powerful Melodycan Ultra Video converter (http://www.melodycan.com/convert_video.html). This software converts avi (Windows Video), WMV (Windows Media Video) and m4v, mov, aac, ra, aa, mp4, snd, aif, m4p, rax, wav, ogg etc.

I like that DHTML "pop-up" of sorts inviting users to register to receive updates. Is the source of that available somewhere and explaining how to install it on your own blog? (I'd rather use it from an autorized source rather than doing blatant rip-off Ctrl-U (see source) copy and paste ;-).

EDITOR'S NOTE: The one I use is courtesy of Aweber.com's mailing list service, but you can also find some very good code here: http://popup-toolkit.com/

I tried a free converter MPEG Streamclip and, when I had an unprotected avi copy of my DRM protected iTunes movie all that would play was a gray screen without any sound. I tried the converted video on my Mac and DivX certified set-top DVD player.

Well, what about the people who want to convert videos, but have no intent on spending money, because i know im not going to buy a program that costs more money than the videos, I just want a simple free way to convert the videos.

Bought Tunebite Platinum based on the information found here. Unfortunately it will not convert videos in my iTunes library that have been purchased (iTunes locks up and will not play the video with the Tunebite running). It converts the videos that I have not had to purchase (video podcasts) with no issue. The site makes no reference to this limitation; however I have found multiple references to this issue in several forums.

EDITOR'S NOTE: TuneBite claims to convert copy-protected M4V video clips to unprotected WMV or MPEG4 files. Have you contacted them about the problem you encountered?
