I'm a great fan of Firefox (currently trying out version 10, aka Aurora) and its brilliant add-ons such as Adblock Plus.

The main disadvantage of Google Chrome for me is its failure to provide a way to suppress advertisements, but that's a bit like asking a wolf to become a vegetarian!

Both beat IE hands down, IMHO.

If incognito browsing is so good then why is it not the default for all three? That is, what is one giving up in browsing experience.

The same of the benefit of "least extension friendly." What does that do not not do for the user?

As a user, I do not want to be bothered with having to remember to activate or deactivate certain functions; I just want to browse. How are these couple of things a non-issue or not is what I would like to understand. Because I don't.

Thanks.

Installed Chrome yesterday at suggestion of online banking help desk. IE had stopped me working with payment batches; some issue with Java even with Java website giving me thumbs up. Chrome is delightfully simple and seems quicker. Less clutter at top of frame so more visible content. Simple to keep my frequent websites listed. And the creditors have now been paid, just a few days late! IE next for uninstall.

I use Chrome mainly because I am on dial-up and the difference in speed really shows up at these low speeds. However there are a few URL's that won't work with Chrome. I have to use one of the other two to download my accountonline statements, to look at the Hewitt benefits URL, and to read my Hotmail. Otherwise I am satisfied with Chrome.

Well, I got a surprise. I have two user accounts, one with administrator privileges and one plain user. Thought I should use administrator to install Chrome; it got put in the administrator's local data folder, unavailable to plain user. Then when I tried for help, I somehow got a message that if I got a correct answer it would be $38! That got me off to a bad start; I uninstalled.

I am a devout Firefox user. Version 7 is my default. Tried Chrome 15. Really like it. Does really hog memory though. After initial install of Chrome 15, it was slow to open and slow to browse. After much reading on the Chrome Forums, I disabled all the web developer tools that run in Chrome's backround (Dev Tools, Metrics System, Metrics Reporting, Hang Monitor and Logging) and also applied all the tweaks available for Chrome and it now opens and browses very fast. The method for disabling the developer tools is to much to get into here. You can find it on Chrome's User Forums. Google should make these tools much easier to disable since most users will never need them. Dumb, Google. Very dumb.

On my computer (i5 2400 quad, 6 GB RAM, 7200 rpm HDD) my maximally speed tweaked FF 7 and speed tweaked Chrome 15 are equal in browsing speed. Very fast. I only run 10 extensions or less on both browsers. My tweaked IE-9 is sluggish and slow. I rarely use it. My fave is FF 7. Its ease of tweaking and all the extensions available are unmatched plus its just as fast as Chrome on my system. Google really needs to give Chrome an About:Config settings page like Firefox has for easy speed tweaking and adjustment.

Chris: Adblock Plus is now available for Chrome although its Beta. Ghostery can be used in Chrome also. Both work very well in Chrome like they do in Firefox. Happy Browsing.

I like both firefox and Chrome. I am using windows 7. for some reason I have trouble with Chrome locking up and some other problems like it will not download torrents, use excessive memory, etc. I just like it for some of its features. I have to go back to firefox for certain applications. IE is just a pain. Microsoft has certain applications like Messenger tied to IE, If you take out IE, Yahoo Messenger will not work. Even if you take out MSN messenger-Yahoo Messenger will not work.

I like Chrome because it gives up all memory that it utilized almost instantly upon shutdown. FireFox takes forever to shutdown and is a memory hog as well.

Long ago I switched to Chrome and have been most happy with the choice to change from IP.... try Chrome... you will like it. :)

I've tried Chrome several times, and if they would simply provide a drop down bookmark button, I would switch from Firefox.
It's a simple request, made by many many people, but totally ignored. I don't want to take up screen space with a bookmark toolbar, and I don't want multiple clicks to find a bookmark.
I agree with the comments about too many versions of Firefox and the disablement of add ons, it's a pain in the you know where!

I've been using IE for so long its hard to think of another browser but awhile back I was having problems with a particular page. When I used Chrome to access the page it loaded quickly and without problems. So I'm thinking Chrome all the way now.

I don't use Chrome. and based on your srticle I'm not interested in trying it. I mostly use SeaMonkey, because it is far an away the fastest loading browser of the the 3 I have on my (XP) system; IE and Firefox are the others. My exprience with IE (v7) is horrible, as its loading and parocessing is so slow as to make me cry (I can't seem to upgrade to v8 for some reason, as it aborts every attempt to install). Firefox (v8) is quite slow, too, but noticeably faster to load than IE. However, Firefox is dismally slow for file downloads. SeaMonkey is the fastest in all my usage aspects.

My previous post did not appear correctly, and I would like to clarify:

I'm a big fan of Chrome - and the way it integrates with other Google Apps. It starts up amazingly faster than IE or Firefox, and, when combined with Google Search, can initiate a web search by hitting the CTRL key twice, entering your search term, and hitting ENTER. The Google search results appear instantly. This alone places it way ahead of the competition.

Hmmm...writing this again. Chrome is #1 with me. (And I think people need our opinions, good point.) Firefox is good, IE is like driving a big ole dump truck. Opera is cool, but not as cool as the big two: Chr and FF. (Funny, I'm on FF right now, but it's only because I have so many pages SAVED on Chrome. LOL Thanks for your article, Bob. Always good to see.

Google Chrome is the best browser. Trouble free compared to its competitors. Earlier I was addicted to IE. Also in touch with Firefox, Opera.

It is a nice article. I used to use MS IE then also started using Firefox which was working fine since some last update of version 8.0.

In the above article at the end it says
"Although not perfect. And within a year, it may end up at the top of the market share charts. Certainly, it's worth a try."

Not perfect or not secure? if security is better than Firefox and MS IE then trying is not a problem.

I use both Firefox and Chrome (and Opera sometimes). All 3 perform adequately.

Chrome! Firefox is a memory hog, slow unstable and the user interface somewhat chaotic.
Firefox does not run multiple instances.
I have forgotten hoe to use IE.
Chrome all the way.

I have a brand new computer and am trialling chrome as Firefox plugins kept crashing my last computer or it would just hang.....also took ages to reload. Also had problems with IE crashing. So far, no problems with Chrome, very clean.
