The main reason Chrome is so popular (based on number of users) is because of it's unbelievably aggressive campaign to sneak or force itself onto people's computers and make itself the default browser, not because it is better than any other browser (it isn't better, btw). Most people don't realize they have the option to use other browsers so, once Chrome is on their computers and has become the default browser, it usually stays there.

The primary reason IE has become so unpopular is, in the past, it was a crappy browser with IE 6 being the worst of the bunch. Since then, it has been steadily improving and now is much better but people have long memories and assume it's still as bad as IE6 was (Chrome displacing it hasn't helped any). I favor it because it's cooking handling is far superior to other browsers.

I don't trust Chrome any farther than I can spit upwind in a stiff breeze since Google is so snoopy, tracking pretty much everything you send or receive. The fact that Google has such an aggressive campaign to sneak or force Chrome onto people's computers is reason enough to not trust it (I don't even use Google for my search engine anymore because of Google's snoopiness).

Hey, Bob! You've never responded to my intelligent queries so I'll throw this at you. You repeatedly type "it's" (it is) when you should type "its," the possessive (without the comma, of course). You're welcome.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Thank'u! I type a lot, so I hope I can be forgiven the occasional typo.

I agree completely with Lady Fitzgerald. Chrome is my wifes browser and Google her everything else. I use Firefox portable and a VPN whenever I'm online. Whenever she punches up email or any other site, she's met with a barrage of ads. Sometimes I'm tempted to click up a couple of p**no sites on her Chrome and see what kind of ads come up in the next few days. I'm chicken.

You may think so, but I for one have Firefox, Edge and Chrome on my desktop and the reason I use Chrome almost exclusively is because it is faster and better and easier to use.
I also have about 6 or 8 browsers on my iPhone and mostly use.....Chrome far more than any of the others for the exact same reason.
Also, waa, waa, waa, ...Google, Facebook, Microsoft ...evil!

I'd be willing to try Opera again if it did all of the functions that Chrome does without reporting everything to Google. I have a couple of thins which absolutely depend on Chrome (one is a proprietary data program written in HTML5). I'll explore.

Chrome won't load many graphics (videos, slideshows)at all on my Windows 10 Computers. Firefox is my default browser on Windows, as it has been for years, even though I don't like their politics and constant begging. Vivaldi is my default on Linux simply because it works best there. Opera is my secondary on Linux. I do have to use Chrome on my Chromebook.

I tried Opera just to see how it worked. Then, a couple of months ago, I found out that it had been bought and/or partnered with a Chinese company. That did it for me. I'm not a fan of Chrome because I feel Google is a bit intrusive for my tastes. Now, I use Edge and Firefox which covers most of my needs.

I run Opera, Firefox or Chrome, and very occasionally Edge, on my Windows 10 laptop. Opera is the most stable and and fastest on my machine. It has been my default browser for many years, because with Chrome or Firefox, there are endless little bugs that do not afflict Opera.

I run a ridiculous number of browser tabs in a minimum of three windows all day every day. While Opera keeps its memory usage acceptably low, the Edge, Chrome and Firefox go nuts and become non-responsive way more than Opera. I'm sticking with it until it goes for a crap like the other. Thanks for what you do.

I generally prefer Firefox because of the large number of add-ons that I use. But Chrome now supports most of them (may even support more now, I don't really know anymore).

I am also finding occasional sites that don't work well with Firefox. For example, speedtest.xfinity.com works well with Chrome but not with Firefox, at least on my computer.

I only use IE if I have some strange site that only works with it. Also it still supports Java, although I rarely find a site that needs it.

One of the best things about Opera is that it has a built-in, free VPN. Just click the VPN button left of the URL, turn it on and there you go. You can also choose your location from Europe, Asia, Americas, Optimum.

I use Vivaldi and Firefox almost exclusively on my Win10 64 bit machine. I have Malwarebytes Pro running on that one and every time I open Chrome, Malwarebytes' scan picks up 5 PUP tracking programs it drops. I absolutely detest that, being tracked that way.

On my Apple products MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, iPhone 8, I use Safari and Vivaldi on the MacBook. Safari and Chrome on the other two. I'd probably use TOR if I didn't think the NSA would be at my doorstep the next morning. I just don't like being tracked.

I like a File Edit View menu option, I insist on it, old fashioned or not. Chrome thinks they know better than I what I want or need, I find that arrogant. Users should be able to customize to their hearts content. Chrome (and Opera) presume to do that for you.

I don't use Google's search engine either, for the same reason, I use Ixquick almost exclusively because it doesn't track me. I suppose these are quirks but I'm with Lady Fitzgerald and trust Google as far as I can throw them. Which is to say not at all. It isn't paranoia if they really are out to get you - and Google is.

As a linux user I have several browser installed.
Currently my default is opera and secondary firefox nightly.
I did, for a period of time use chrome as primary but, I can not count the number of times, that because of the background processes it abuses, I had to kill the process because of its cpu usage.
It was not only slowing surfing down it was also affecting overall system performance.

Currently running Opera and IE 9 (for Flash) and Windows 7. Long live Flash!!!

I agree with the previous post. Chrome attempts to get installed with almost every download, even Flash, and if you are not careful to uncheck every check box, a boatload of google malware will be covertly land on your hard drive and start doing its dirty work.

I'll keep the chrome where it belongs, on my wheels.

I am currently using Chrome because it just seems to work. I was using Firefox until it suddenly stopped opening tabs. Very, very annoying to have to right click, then click on 'open link in new tab' in order to go there. Went back to Chrome.
I.E. still seems a bit slow on my slow computer. I tried old version of Opera for a while but wasn't impressed.

I have relied mainly on Chrome for many years but recently switched to Firefox because of some problems and pop up scams on Chrome. Also at work, the office firewall or virus programs block my bank access on Chrome but not Firefox (same is true for Avast at home). I keep Chrome, Firefox and MS Edge on all my Windows machines as some websites I deal with are optimized for different browsers, and some functions work with one browser when they won't with another.

Ummm, are you kiddin' me?... Google Chrome is laden with issues and is a resource hog... and you actually believe Chrome is better than Opera?... yeah, OK... the machine I have Chrome on is far more sluggish than the equivalent machine with Opera...all hardware is equal, and high end from the Haswell era. What kind of kickback you getting from Google, anyway?...SMH

EDITOR'S NOTE: I'm still waiting for that big fat check from the Goog. Maybe I need to send a change of address.

I currently have 6 browser programs on my PC. Chrome is my main one, but at least once or twice a week, I come across a site that doesn't work properly, won't load, or some other reason that it's unusable. I end up trying other browsers until I find one that will work. Personally, I'm glad there are more choices available than just Chrome.

I have all of the top 4 browsers installed on my machine. I use Chrome most of the time but lately it has had issues. Many videos will not load and Flash has problems on some of my favorite websites. Firefox is much better with the latest versions and Flash works well. I like Opera for the built in VPN when I'm on the road and Edge works well only when the others don't.

I agree with Lady Fitzgerald and also I'm not a cloud person at all. Want nothing to do with it and google (chrome) is all about 'the cloud'.

BTW Bob, what's the matter with a little competition. It gives all of us a choice, and as you can tell, most of us use more than one browser. I have IE, Firefox and Edge on board.
