replaced stripped part of this sentence:
...You will NOW notice that eBay will ask you (w/a pop-up) if you want to use YOUR SPECIFIC gMAIL account to log-in to eBay. ...

I just began using DDG and prefer it for informational searching. I was a research librarian for many years, and loved Google for many years. However, because of the tracking feature, I have to wade through dozens of ad sites before coming to any actual information when doing a Google search. DDG pops right up with news/information. I also very much like the privacy aspect.

Started using DDG a couple years ago when I became concerned about how Google collected data might be used. Very happy with DDG.

Frances -- I think most folks are using DDG as a Search Engine and not as a Browser. You can use it with any browser by adding it and selecting it to be the default search engine. I have used it at least for 10 years and have used and still use a variety of Browsers including currently, Chrome, Brave, Vivaldi, Tor, Firefox, Waterfox plus others. I like Chrome but use DDG as my default search engine. Extensions coming out the yingyang which periodically I either update via deletion or something new that I learn about. Often have 10-20 tabs open.

I use DDG, Ecosia, Presearch, and Brave for my searche engines. I rotate through them. Google is always my last choice. Unfortunately, there are times I need Google search to find what I am looking for.

I happily used DDG as my primary search engine until I became aware that their method of creating the search link reveals your search term to ISPs, whereas Startpage's method does not. This is something that I would expect to have been mentioned in this article. I would be interested to know details of how many ISPs track and monetize such things. Startpage and Qwant were not mentioned among the privacy search engines.

DDG almost entirely on mobile devices. On computers (many) with different browsers (many), I'd say DDG #1, StartPage & Google #2 (tie), and (rarely) Bing & Yahoo #4 (tie). Only use so many because sometimes I'm in a hurry and use whatever's handy there. Always DDG when I'm attempting more privacy.

I started using Duck Duck Go a few months ago when I noticed Google was not showing me all the results for what I was searching for. I like to see both sides of the "conspiracies". (A good example is trying to get information on the Covid-19 vaccination) Google was filtering so I would only see one side of the problem(s). I have a big problem with someone filtering what I can and can't see/read about. So far I'm happy.

DuckDuckGo reliably returns more relevant results for me when searching for a particular topic at a particular site than does Google.

Question to Ronald Ottenwess - what are "left-leaning political results"? I'm wondering what in the political spectrum I would not be getting and should be wary of on Google.

I've been using DuckDuckGo only for several years. I never use Google. DuckDuckGo doesn't have the added search parameters of Google Advanced search, but it doesn't need them. It's an outstanding engine, I don't like being tracked, DuckDuckGo is customizable in settings and if you use start.DuckDuckGo and bookmark it you have even more protections as well as those settings saved for use. I use it on all my devices including Windows and iOS. Whatever I'm looking for is almost always the first result, it pops up suggestions that are uncannily accurate. Great tool and the privacy aspects can't be beaten.

Google is totally dishonest and allows advertisers of dubious health products to take ten or more pages (obviously paying for them) to hide the facts. For example - I am a very sick victim of Diabetes which is the most exploited subject for scammers. When I search for proof of their "Wonderful cure" asking whether the product is genuine and use 'scam?' in the text - Google obliges EVERYTIME with an apparently sympathetic answer but as soon as one opens the dialogue one sees the dishonest product in all its glory with price list, etc. The suppliers are allowed to hoodwink with Google's clear knowledge. The second most false answers are given if searching for help with ED.

I use Google for fluff-type searches. You know. Such as, something casually comes up in conversation and no one knows the answer, so you Google it. Everything else, Duck Duck Go!

I am always concerned about privacy on the web that's why I'm using DuckDuckGo since years as my primary search engine. There is a very rare need for another one to find things.

Will have to take their (and your!) word on the privacy angle, but I switched to DDG a few years ago after finding I got better / more relevant "answers" to my searches with them.

to Ronald Ottenwess:
Even something firmly in the centre can appear to be "left-leaning" if you're standing on the right.

I have been using DuckDuckGo off and on for years, as it is the default on Linux Mint installations. But in the last year, in order to minimize exposure to the Google monopoly and to avoid Chrome-based browsers, I have made DDG my exclusive search engine on all devices - in the workplace and at home (3 laptops, one tablet, one phone).
I do occasionally check with Google for hard to find, very old data, just to make sure that I haven't missed anything by only searching on DDG.
