Glad you're on the mend! Thanks for the warning about the surgery video - think I'll pass.

Interesting about the floaters. I've had them for years and was told there wasn't anything that could be done about them. If I ever have have some kind of eye surgery, I'll be sure to ask for a vitrectomy.

Thank you for sharing and more importantly for taking care of yourself. As a LONG time reader going back to the 'bus' days, I appreciate your insights.

The most important point is to take care of yourself. The best of luck in your treatment, and a thank you for supplying years of great advice.

You were lucky to have to remain face down for only one day. I had vitrectomy surgery a few years ago, and had to remain face down for a minimum of two weeks, which ended up being 16 days until I had my follow-up appointment. No reading, TV, or computer for 16 days.

As we grow into old age and find these little annoyances it's always nice to have reminders like yours to act as soon as we start having problems to have them checked out.
I hope you heal quickly

Thanks for the good news!
And kudos to the surgeon for having the courage to do that.
Keep plugging.

Thanks Bob for sharing. I have a similar condition on my right eye. But then it improved.
I was too scared of the surgery option. One thing that really helped is eating 4 ounces of kale and 3 onces of orange bell pepper each day. As a biochemist I could see why they are so beneficial together (lutein and zeaxanthin). Much better than supplements.
You are lucky to live in the US because here the prices are so high for good food.

Thank you for this informative and timely article. It's good to know the surgery went well and that you're recovering nicely. Like Ryan, I'm a long-time bus rider, and it's reassuring to know our driver is taking care of his vision! Sending healing vibes for continued good health.

I have had floaters for years. During my last eye exam, the Optometrist suggested a new OTC supplement called VitreousHealth. It's effective in about 2/3rd of those taking it. I'm about one month into taking them. No noticeable change, but he said it takes a good portion of 90 days to see if there's any benefit.

Glad to hear things are going well so far, Bob! as a reader of yours for a long, long time, I feel you're kind of extended family, and I'm thinking good thoughts your way.

Myself...I'm dealing with macular degeneration. Treatment is to prevent further damage, and so far it is doing that. At 92,I can't complain.

Hang in, my friend!

I had cataract surgery on both eyes three years ago. Also painless. Do not put off eye surgery out of fear.

Bob's experience is more a norm than an exception.

Hope Bob continues to recover well.

Hi Bob. My story is almost identical to yours. Last month, I visited the clinic that performed cataract surgery on both eyes and found out that I have a macular hole in the retina of my right eye, causing distortion similar to yours. This past Tuesday, I visited a surgeon who specializes in retina surgery and am scheduled to have surgery on August 9th.

I hope all goes well with you and wish you the very best!

Bob,
I am a long time subscriber. It is great the surgery took care of your issue. I have cataracts and glaucoma. Surgery took care of the cataracts. Eyedrops abate the glaucoma. Take care

Thanks Bob?? I'm glad it helped you, but now I can never have it done because I watched the video! Seriously, I never anticipated what I saw: I don't know if it was incredible or horrifying! That said, it's nice to know such advanced treatments have been developed for those who need them. Best wishes for your recovery and your continued edification of your readers.

Bob,
Let me join with the others in saying how grateful we are to have you around and to wish you a speedy recovery. I didn't watch the video, but face down for a day (or as one other person said, 16 days)? Like in bed on your stomach except to go to the head? Someone cutting your food and feeding you too?

@Luc,
I'm taking Ocuvite as per my ophthalmologist. I can't do kale, well, it never appealed to me, but since Feb as a result of my Calcium Oxalate kidney stone, one of the things I have to avoid is kale.
