Opera's my favorite, but it crashes all the time, and after the crash it can't start unless I do the new installation of it. I don't know, maybe the problem is in my antic computer with win XP, but I remember better times using Opera on the same computer, and it never crashed... Btw, Chrome also doesn't work well on this computer, but it's perfect on my 3 years old mini laptop - also with XP...

I use Opera, Firefox, Chrome (and if forced to, IE). I find that having several browsers available means that if one breaks down, there are others available. I usually have one where I watch videos (music, car repairs, etc.). That way, I can leave several tabs open at a time without having to fight with too many on one browser. I do not like Firefox' tab grouping process - have tried to several times and it defeats me. For my general use, there's not too much difference between them except for Opera's icons down the left-hand side.

Tried to install Opera last year but it wouldn't install. Used it over 5 years ago and wanted to try the newest version but xp mce sp2 wouldn't take it. May try again, although no complaints with Chrome.

I started using Opera back in my dial-up days because of it's rendering speed (needed every boost I could get), and was happy enough with it to pay for it. Made the shift to Firefox for most browsing when: a), broadband finally became available in my area; and b), I got tired of being inundated under a tsunami of ads. At the time, Opera didn't offer any ad-blocking, and didn't seem likely to. Now that Opera offers ad-blocking I find that I use it more often lately; but it's a pain to be moving organizing bookmarks from one browser to another. All of my most-used Firefox bookmarks are in the "From Opera" tab, though, and I still use Opera for a few sites. Also, bear in mind that many early Opera users set the User Agent to Internet Explorer for compatibility reasons; this may make Opera usage look like an even smaller percentage that it really is.

I am a major user of Chrome. I used Opera a number of years ago and the one major problem then was its proprietary bookmarks which were not directly importable or exportable to another browser which is easy to do with Chrome and IE for example -- save as .htm file and import or export. I like to have favorites available from the start menu as well as the browser. Don't know if the current version allows for this to be done or if one still needs a third party program as before. If this issue has been resolved, it might be fun to check out Opera one more time.

I have been using Firefox since version one and although I do love it, I find myself using Opera more and more now. I love the speed and the look of it (and especially speed dial). And now I'm able to have the extensions that I need (Lastpass, Ghostery, WOT and just a few others). Haven't tried the mail client but am getting ready to. I think that Opera is a superb browser and am surprised at the small percentage of users. Add me to the converts.

I was a swear-by-Opera person for a while. It is MUCH faster and more user-friendly (though less customizable) than Firefox. However, now I am using Google Chrome (oddly enough, advertised at the bottom of this page!) and I swear by it. It is MUCH faster than Opera.

Bob, I have used Opera for 10 or 12 years! I cannot say enough about Opera. There is greater speed, greater privacy, better security (Opera's fraud protection has actually stopped me from clicking a bad link), a total suite of features (and, yes, I do use Opera's M2 email client, as well), and all of these, with a smaller footprint! Opera just "looks right" and "feels right" to me after so many years, but...if you choose, Opera can be made to look however YOU please. What a great job these folks have done throughout the years. Yep, it's a bit techy...but, you are truly able to use only those features you need. (For years, Opera had tabbed browsing when no one else did...for years, Opera allowed the disabling of referrers with only the checking of a box....and, for some time now, Opera has had "enable plugins on demand"....that would sell it to me...no more roaring cars across my screen, or videos playing until I CLICK THE ARROW! And, oh, did I say, free? I used Opera when I had to pay. Thanks for your article. Susie

I am a long-term satisfied Opera user. The ripple of right-left on the mouse to go back is so easy and natural that I'm always surprised and faintly annoyed when other browsers, programs and the operating system itself don't respond to this. The ability to highlight text and 'Copy to Note' for later reference with just a couple of mouse-clicks is also excellent. Browsers like shoes? This one's a comfortable slipper!

I incorrectly thought that Chrome was the fastest browser. Because of this article, I am going to install and use Opera. Thank you for the information.

I've tried and used Opera and it is OK. But there are good REASONS why I use others, which I find superior.

But I don't mind if you use Opera, or any other browser that you prefer.

The use of a browser by an individual does not make that individual better or worse than somebody else that uses another browser. My favorite color is red. I'm sure many of you prefer something else.

I have been a fan of Opera for a very long time. But every time I try to make it my main/only browser, I find that there are still some websites that it does not play well with ... like my bank. It has always been out front in many ways but right now I'm using Google Chrome which does everything I want without exception ... and very quickly too.

I really like Opera. It is fast, and I especially like the many icons it displays at start up. I don't use it that much however, as I'm used to using Chrome, which seems a bit faster. I would encourage anyone with vision difficulty to consider Opera because of it's magnification bar that increases the size of information on screen. This is a little bar on the bottom right, that can mean a difference for the vision challenged.

After reading this article I downloaded Opera again for the first time in many years to give it another run.
Came very close to immediately dumping it again due to my frustration at my inability to customise Opera to my requirements due to the lack of a Menu Bar & no amount of item clicking found one until several Google searches came to the rescue.
Now having set Opera as my default browser I'm finding it faster & cleaner than the big 3.

I have tried Mosaic, Netscape, IE 1-7, Firefox, Safari (Windows version), Chrome, Opera, Lunascape, SRIron, Blackhawk and a pot of others, and found irritants enough to make me go elsewhere and try again. I am currently at uneasy peace with Firefox, except for their tendency to issue (hourly?)update patches that trash the whole program during installation, and their delight in outdating useful extensions with every revision.
Someday a nice, safe, easy, fast, well behaved browser will come available. I should live so long.

I have and use Opera, have been for a long time now. It works just fine. I also use Chrome and have firefox, but prefer the other two more. I have no problems with any of them though, but I do not touch windows of any breed, gave up on it ever amounting to anything back in 2001 and have been with linux since without a single computer problem since.. It's realy fast web access browser. I've been using since the windows'95 (Opera4) but I don't know why I stopped using it (perhaps the IE is acceptable for commercial web). Now it's a candidate for web browser!, but I don't know why it is in the 5th rank (perhaps the wellknown browser requires marketting strategy). I feel some web like TV access does not allow the Turbo mode so the result cause this mode to be disabled, I don't know why.
