Whilst you are at it can you also tell us how to stop the annoying flashing images on the Ask Bob Rankin webpage and that annoying black bar at the bottom that won't respond to clicking it off !!!

EDITOR'S NOTE: I don't see anything like that. I advise you to run MBAM and AdwCleaner. You can find links by searching this site.

Thanks for the tip Bob. Will add that right away to chrome. Get so tired of that pop up stuff too. Just like you, sipping coffee and then blaring crap!

What a relief. I consider this my early Christmas gift.
Thank you Bob.

Bob, I'm not sure what flashing images Steve is talking abou (unless they're part of a different ad that he's seeing)t, butt I do always see a floating ad bar at the bottom of your site. It's really annoying because it moves up the page as I scroll, then floats back to the bottom. I can make it disappear by tapping the X at the right-hand end of the ad, but it reappears almost immediately; basically, I can't get rid of it. Very distracting. [I mostly read your site on an iPad4 running iOS10.]

I believe Steve Hyams may be referring to the hyperlink pop-up ads on AskBobRankin. Whenever the cursor wanders over a hyperlinked word (you don't have to click anything!) an obnoxious pop-up ad appears.

I agree-an early Christmas gift! When I visit a website, very often I hear a person talking away and wondering where it is coming from. Moving the website down I see the video. And it goes on and on...I am assuming the Firefox fix will not apply to YouTube auto plays. Sometimes I enjoy listening to the playlist.

Not sure what others are talking about with obnoxious ads on this site. I've never seen any. Maybe another helpful article for you to tackle Bob.

Hmmm, well I tred it on Firefox and found your suggestion worked a little too well: it disabled all the sound on videos that I did want to listen to. Not exactly helpful. I guess I'll go back to my old way of blocking the sound...turning off my speakers.

Let me add my thanks to all the others. I just changed "true" to "false" in Firefox. I don't have those floating annoyances on your website, Bob, but I have experienced them on other ones. My experience with their persistence when I click the "X" is that of Bop The Mole: it moves when I approach the "x" with the cursor two or three times and then it gives up, allowing me to click it out of existence. I second the suggestion for a future article.

Anybody else disturbed by the "It can read and change all your data on the websites you visit" message that you get when you go to install the Disable HTML5 Autoplay extension?

Thanks for the Chrome advice, Bob.
One other thing.
No matter how many times I set Facebook videos autoplay to 'off', I still get autoplay videos on my desktop.
Sometimes they just play twice. Other times they go into a continuous loop. Still other times they do nothing, just like I want.
Crazy.

I've been locking out auto-play functions on webpages for years, but as you mentioned, they keep coming up with new stuff that slips through and needs to be blocked.

Tanx for your latest advice on tools to defend ourselves from the blasting baloney (and keep our shorts cleaner, longer).
