I've been using DuckDuckGo for quite a few years now, probably recommended by you. I like that it's not tracking everything I do. I think the searches give more concise results. I don't understand why it's not more popular than Google.

I have used DuckDuckGo for several years, and have had no complaints. I like the lack of user data collection by the site.

I have used DuckDuckGo for years and I love it. I feel like finding it was a happy coincidence for me.

I tell everyone it is the way to go.

I've been using DuckDuckGo for many years. In addition to the reasons you've given, I like using it to search for images. You can select 3 levels of content results, so if you don't want X-rated images to display in the results, it's an option.

It's all I use. But for actual anonymity use the extension. I read an article that showed that sites would see your information coming from DDG, but not if you use the extension.

I have been using StartPage for several years. It presents Google search data with true privacy. Love and trust it.

Just fine and requires less input and no snooping.

What keeps me from using DuckDuckGo is transferring my bookmarks and tool bar.

I have used Startpage until very recently when I discovered that SP returned some very left-leaning political results as did Google. Not so on DDG.

DuckDuckGo has been my default for a couple of years. As secondary, I use Ecosia, which is very quick, clean, and has the bonus of planting trees where they're needed. Both these browsers do whatI need and make me smile.

DuckDuckGo wins the crown jewel for search engines. StartPage is second.

Since DuckDuckGo has now come out with a web browser that, while not in beta, is going through changes. The problem is its lack of extensions. Of course, a VPN built into that web browser would really be great.

DDG and, for those moments when only Google will do, Startpage which has a similar non-retention policy.

I wonder if Startpage, which performs an anonymous Google search on your behalf, adds to the stats that the data-hoover boast?

Qwant is another private search engine, out of Europe. Diversity is good -- different perspectives on connecting to more information.

Pretty sure Startpage and Google don't return left-leaning political results. Google changed their algorithm a few years ago to throttle left-learning results (e.g., when searching "socialism" because of Bernie Sanders trending -- World Socialist Website, Truthdig saw noticeable declines in web traffic).

I started using DDG years ago, when Bing started getting popular. For about a week, I conducted every single search simultaneously in Bing, Google, and DDG, so I could compare them; consistently, I got the best results from DDG. Every once in a while, though, I don't seem to get much from DDG and will use Google with success - I guess maybe part of it just depends on what you're searching for.

DuckDuckGO is a very good web searcher.I had no issues with it and will recommend it to anyone who asks.Mozilla's Firefox has it as one of their suggested web searchers.

Thank you BobRankin for all that you do for us to keep us informed.
"They also have non-tracking affiliate partnerships with Amazon and eBay." Does it really matter if DDG has non-tracking 'partnerships' if eBay (or amazon) does not need assistance w/their tracking-on-steroids invasiveness[?], which go beyond the normal tracking-cookies??
Try this test:
Go to the eBay site w/o logging in.
You will NOW notice that eBay will ask you (w/a pop-up) if you want to use account to log-in to eBay. Huh? What?
I tried this test BOTH with and w/o having another browser page/tab open in google or gmail (w/ or w/o google sign-in). I spent 20 minutes of eBay chat about my privacy concerns and got nothing but a run-around.
During this 20min. chat-time, I logged-in to my eBay and completely deleted that 22 year old account.
AND, copied/pasted the "eBay Account Deletion Confirmation" as a goodbye reply in the eBay chat.
Done!
