Internet Explorer 8 - Comments Page 2

As I'm reading this, on XP SP2 in Firefox 3.0.10, I'm waiting for IE8 on my other PC running Vista Home. It can't find its homepage all of a sudden, after a full day of business browsing. It does that way too often; a full reboot will be needed to fix it. What I do like: the Favorites button in the right place, and the Faves menu goes away when you select a link. The New Tab 'tab' next to the ones already open. What I don't like: See Above. IE8 ain't ready for prime time, imho. |

I installed IE8 and finally took it back off as my computer slowed down. It was much slower than IE7. I use FireFox because of the speed of IE. |

Hi Bob, I've been running IE8 for 2 months now on Windows XP Pro. It's everything you said it is and more. At first I was reluctant but after reading about all the improvements I had to give it a shot. The worst that could happen was I'd do a restore. I keep my machine clean, virus and bug free and off of bad sites. Without wasting resources. How? I have Nod-32 Anti-Virus which is constantly updating in the background. Paretego's X-Soft Antispyware which I have setup to scan every 3 hours and 10:00pm which takes 1 minute 15 seconds. Then Spyware Blaster which I donated to so I get automatic updates and Search and Destroy without the Tea Timer. Next is Window Washer and PC Optimizer 2.0 and CCleaner. Take care of your rig and it will take care of you! In case your counting 3 of these utilities are free. On a side-note I use Cloudmark for Spam control. Install it and forget it. The longer you use it, the better it gets. |

It constantly amazes me how people complain about Microsoft products, have another product (Mozilla) that is developed by folks looking out for the consumer, but then as soon as Microsoft plays catch-up, they are willing to ditch the group who is looking out for their best interests and "gives" Microsoft another try. It just goes to show how dis-loyal people really are, as well as possibly showing how branding really works in the advertising world. How sad, especially for the people who take the time to do the open source developing. |

I installed Explorer 8 last week when it arrived with a bunch of updates from Microsoft. It is very slow and often fails to open links, etc. I became so frustrated that I download Google's Chromem which is working well. In summary, I am totally disappointed that Microsoft would release this update. |

I have had NOTHING BUT ISSUES WITH IE8 I finally downloaded another web browser it keeps rebooting (IE8) and also freezing up...I have no problems with the other browser I wish I never would have done the update! |

I downloaded IE 8 it took IE 7 off my system and now I do not have a working IE of any number. I have tried some registry fixes but it still won't load. I have the shortcuts etc. but when I click on them nothing happens. I am now using Firefox 3 which works perfectly. |

I have Windows XP Pro with 2G system memory. |

Maybe third time will be a charm: this second install of IE8 remains as slow as the first time I installed it. It seems that everything downloaded from Microsoft should be on a trial basis and easily removed when it doesn't meet your needs. |

Have you had any comments about memory leaks with IE8? EDITOR'S NOTE: No, have you experienced that problem? |

Any students or teachers using a learning management system (LMS) such as BlackBoard or WebCT will have major issues with IE8. Clicking the Compatibility View button may fix these issues. Blackboard is working on developing a system patch that will provide support for IE8, however it will be mid-summer before a solution is available, and since this is end-of-semester time, students had best not mess with IE8. This would not be necessary if Microsoft would use the same standards others use instead of bullying everyone into using their standards! |

I haven't taken IE8 for a thorough test drive, but nothing so far makes me want to give up FF. I haven't had any real problems using IE8, but every time I close the program, I get the "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." message. |

Jeff. I thought the same thing (system restore). I wasn't quite as happy about it as you are, but when I went to system restore. It said "nothing has changed" and wouldn't restore. So I am stuck with it. But I am getting used to it. |

Downloaded E-8. Could not access internet at all. Error code indicated non compatable with HP software for my printer. Then went back to E-7 and then able to access internet. MSN did not respond to my comments, but HP did saying that E-8 not compatable with HP software and no solution. All is well again running E-7 and HP printer. |

Bob: I am still on IE6 'cuz I hate having to relearn MS's programs as they change, not often for the better. I just read your IE8 review and thought "maybe I should try this". Then I read all the previous comments here and said "Why would I subject myself to all the trouble the other posters describe?? I know why everybody on Slashdot is scathingly against MS. What say ye about all the problems described here? |

I tried IE8 and it really didn't offer much for me over FireFox 3.0.9. Then I updated to FF 3.0.10, but it refused to operate. Since Mozilla/FF website does not offer option to go back to version 9 now that they have 10, I went to another site that offers any version back to FF 2.0 and reinstalled 3.0.9 after first uninstalling 10. I think I'm going to leave well enough alone. Have disabled auto-update for FF in my browser "options" area. Here's another Snickers for you, Bob. |

I installed MS/Explorer Version 8 recently and found that recent URLs, favorites and history are displaying in the URL address box pulldown. How do I turn this feature OFF? |

I installed IE8 some many weeks ago, but it lasts about 1 to 3 days before the entire top section is 'splattered' with a portion of an image that was on the desktop when it was brought up, it later comes up black. Nothing can be read though the sections still respond to the mouse: point or point/click. Once 'smeared', it doesn't clear. Even reboot to an empty desktop retains the mostly black area. Reinstall, annoyingly complex, long & requiring a reboot renders it clean for another day or three.. Come on M.S., when are you going to fix this? |

Marion, I'd like to know how to turn it off, too. I've tried many things and nothing worked. I hated it when I first downlaoded it. Too many changes for a dummy! I'm getting used to it and I'm sure it will grow on me. |
