Vonage has an outgoing fax service in Alpha testing that is 'free' for customers on their 'unlimited plan'. v-fax.vonage.com Sadly, I've not gotten it to work yet. I'm looking for an outgoing service that will let me fax 10 or 20 pages of medical receipts to my health savings plan administrator. |

Faxzero has increased there premium service cost to $1.99 per fax (via Paypal). But they also increased the maximum number of pages from 10 to 15. Altogether a better deal than using $4 gas to get to the local Kinkos and paying their per page charge to fax 15 pages. |

Hi, Is there a way by which to send free faxes from my PC either via e.mail or the internet to a fax number in India? EDITOR'S NOTE: Check out TPC.INT, they offer free faxing to India (+91). |

There is a service where you can receive faxes by email; I've ben using it for years and have my own fax number, which goes straight to my email. It's called eFax. It's worked great -- I just put my fax number on something as if I have a fax machine, and the fax shows up (as a .tif file I think) in my email. |

Can anyone please comment on the security of using this type of service when sending or receiving content sensitive documents?? EDITOR'S NOTE: It has the same security level as email, which is little to none. But that's really no different than sending a fax over a regular telephone line. It's also possible to tap into a phone line and intercept a call or fax transmission. |

ANDY! Your posting does not include a URL. IF you refer to the service at eFAX.com, it will be required since it appears they DO NOT offer a 'FREE' fax service - as far as I can tell. EDITOR'S NOTE: eFAX.com does offer a free 30-day trial. See http://askbobrankin.com/free_internet_faxing.html |

Not wanting to wade through all the choices myself, I'll ask this quickie -- which if any of these allow you to fax *.BMP files? *.JPG? *.GIF? Thanks... |

I had a free "30 day" trial with MaxEmail (I'm using quotes because the trial lasted much longer than that)and then signed up for their most basic service, "Max E-mail Lite." It allows me 100 inbound fax pages a month, and a nickle a page after that. Outbound, to anywhere in the US, costs a nickle every 30 seconds they transmit. I'm with them a few years now; they fit my needs perfectly and I've found them extremely reliable. I highly recommend them. Read up on them at www.maxemail.com |

I just tried FaxZero and it works as described here and on their own web page. It was simple and took less than 1 minute. This is the first fax I've sent in about 4 years, I do everything by email, unfortunately, emailed documents are still not acceptable for legal and insurance related documents. For the little I need it, I don't mind that the recipient receives a 1 page cover with advertising, they won't accept my email so they can print out and read an ad;-) |

I second the comments on Maxemail.com for fax use. When I signed up they were less expensive for my level of use than the likes of eFax (I've used them both now) especially if you go ahead and commit to a year. Both are good services. |

Finally. The search is over, I've finally found an internet service from which I can fax outbound. NetZero. Thanks for the info Bob. |

Far and away the best outgoing FAX service is at http://www.box.net . Box.net is a free service for sharing files, but their best feature is the ability to send free unlimited FAXes to anywhere on Earth. You need to: To send a FAX, upload any pdf, doc, xls, tif, tiff, rtf, txt, or html file to Box.net. Then right click on the uploaded file and choose "Send with eFax". |

Re: FaxZero I'm sure many of your readers don't live in the USA - it would be nice if you suggested services that we could use. Greetings from the Faroe Islands. EDITOR'S NOTE: There is a link in the article with other services you can try: http://askbobrankin.com/free_internet_faxing.html |

I thought everyone would appreciate knowing I recently added a few more fax services to my eFax guide; it now includes faxing plans from $2.00 a month to $64.95 for unlimited e-mail to fax service. Please stop by www.a2.com/telecom/freefax.html |

I wish I was as fortunate as most of your other readers. I tried FaxZero.com. The best I could get out of them was an "Oops! There was a Problem." message. |
