The first two you listed were there....the last two were not. FYI: I've had no problems.

Can we assume that the updates with the same number but released on 8/15 are safe? I have at least one of them.

EDITOR'S NOTE: No, remove all the listed KBs.

Hi there!

You're missing a digit in the last patch. The correct ID is KB 2975331, not KB 297533.

You mentioned that if you were using Windows 7 or Windows 8, you should remove the patches. Does this also hold true if your system is a Window's 8?

I only had one of them on my work machine, but one is too many. I'll be all over my personal machines as soon as I get home. Speaking of many: many, many thanks for publishing this. Much appreciated.

Using Win 8.1, 64 bit, I only found 1 of these updates (2982791) - none of my updates were dated Aug 2, all were dated Aug 16.

Hi,

Is the 4th KB number correct with only 6 digits ?
All the rest have 7 digits.
Cheers,

Jay Bee

Thank you! Only found one of the four listed, but deleted it.

Hmmm. You write: " The four numbers you are looking for are: 2982791, 2970228, 2975719, and 297533."

One of these things is not like the others.

Three of these are seven digits, while the last one is 6 digits. Is that correct, or did somebody make a typo?

Bob, I found only one of the four updates on my computer, and uninstalled. Not sure if this is common or not, but thought I'd pass that on to others just in case.

okay, I found two of four - is that okay? also the last one was only 6 digits, not 7, and was not found. I hope I did this right, as I have no idea what exactly is happening. thanks for the update.

I went to "Programs and Features". In the left side bar I selected "Installed Updates". I looked through the recent updates. I found two of the four numbers installed on 8/13/2014. I successfully uninstalled them.
I noticed how it was not possible to search for a particular KB. It was not possible to sort them other that 'during the last week' or 'earlier this year'

I suppose I come under the heading of (fairly) tech-savvy but I will never allow Windows/Microsoft to update my system automatically. Even with not doing so, I have still been caught out in the past, and had to find for myself, which of the last-installed patches caused my problems.

I don't need all the Office patches simply because I don't use Microsoft Office (I use the excellent and free OpenOffice instead). I therefore choose which patches, or updates, I wish to install - and ALWAYS install any 'Security' patches (except for Office).

I make it a rule that I check for updates manually regularly every Wednesday (after the Tuesday 'Patch day').

Thanks for the useful info, as always, Bob. I'm now off to check my updates, but haven't had a BSOD as yet!

I found one and only one of those updates, KB2982791. It was installed 8/14/14. It will not uninstall. I have tried 3 times. Now what do I do?

I had two of the patches, 2982791 and 2970228. Is that normal? Am I missing finding the other two in some other place?

How come there was no notification from Microsoft?
