Software Tester
27 Apr 2010

Rob, contrary to your claims, I didn't KNOW in advance that those software are poor in quality or misrepresented. And most importantly, I would never advocate any substandard product. I read a lot of comments and reviews from here and from everywhere.

I only learned until AFTER I downloaded, AND managed to reverse engineered it and found staggering flaws in the code. (By the way, I work as a software tester. I didn't have to buy from 5 different vendors to prove my point. One download is necessary.)

And here's how the refund process go from Clickbank (since I paid the product thru it):

DO NOT go to the vendor's site and request for a refund. Your request will be placed in a recycle bin. Vendors will try all their best to KEEP the sale. But if you happened to pay the software from their site, you are out of luck.

When you paid the software thru clickbank (or any secured third party site), go directly to its customer support page and request for a ticket.

Make sure to provide valid Clickbank Order Number, a valid email, the last 4 digit of the credit card you used for the transaction. They will also use this to initiate your refund. Or a Paypal transaction ID. Note: Clickbank will not entertain unsubstantiated or invalid information.

Make sure to provide a good reason for the refund. Here's a suggestion: You may state that there was a download error, or simply tell them that you don't agree with the software's EULA agreement. Clickbank will process refunds or cancellation in 48 hours.

I got mine (both the product and my money!).

Now, here's the best part:

The software uses a simple algorithm (or a script) to search and crawl for embedded objects such as movies, video clips, music, audio formats, and video streaming formats accross the internet including but not limited to TV network feeds, websites, radio, and other readable files, among others. The software then index these links and create a list thru its library. The software COULD NOT and CANNOT access "On-Demand," "Pay-per-View", "Premium shows" such as HBO, Cinemax, and Showtime, etc. (a good reason why we keep our subscription with a Cable service).

What makes the software crappy is that it does not provide any functionality to delete or remove broken links and abandoned sites that have been added into its library. That is why when you click a "channel" or a "radio station (yes folks, radio

stations are included)", and it does not show up, thats because the links are broken, the site has been abandoned, the feeds have expired or replaced and the software does not recognize them as such. It simply dump those links or feed links(like a

garbage site) into its library. And by the time you search your favorite "channel" all you get is error 404 feed OR maybe a p**n site!

If you want to avoid all the hassles and headaches, do some research about the product and check the e-commerce site's return policy before you make your first move.

EDITOR'S NOTE: So we agree! The software is crap and should be avoided. And if you buy from a vendor directly, there's little chance you'll get your money back.

As a favor to my parents' under-leveraged cable bills, in light of recent "google TV" news and more so the early hour and my browsing history I bought "Satellite Direct TV" for 49.99 on my credit card at 5:16 this a.m. The payment went through, and upon downloading the software and entering my obtained registration code I was given a suspicious error, and realized with a fair degree of certainty this was likely a bust. Then I emailed "your customer support contact" and received a notice of permanent message delivery failure given the server/domain. Next, went to the website, submitted my complaint. Apparently I have to wait 48 hours, which I read about the last time I was in a haze and decided to try and pay for something (music) online only to realize I had paid for nothing, is in fact the same amount of time any major credit card companies alot for charge reversal, if possible, or something along those lines. This strikes me as a strange coincidence, but then again I did associate google TV, the associative adsense link on a firefox application website after a successful download, and all the things I've watched online for free and enjoyed over the years positively to "Satellite Direct TV, 3500 channels for u!" and proceed to bet a red note I was right. Turns out Google ain't all good, ain't all powerful, and terrible things happen when you choose to put in both the thought and effort of a dolt when making purchases.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Ummmm, when you referred to "your customer support contact" above, I hope you weren't implying that THIS website provides any support for (or has any connection at all to) the Satellite Direct TV software. Hopefully that was a mistake, and you now realize that you purchased the very software that this article warns against.

Hey Bob,

I too checked the many "Free TV" sites and was afraid to purchase anything. I just do not know about the companies who offer the "Free TV". I did not know if these sites were a front for a scam. I also grew tired of p**nographic and explicit material being advertised to me also.

I would like for you to email me personally about a company legitimately offering free premium TV programming for computer, home and cell phone (official launch is June 1st).

Programming provided by a well known and well established satellite TV provider with a 2 year exclusive.

It is referral based. I would like your opinion.

Thank you again,

Curt

thank you very much.
i agree completely to your judgement,
free tv software is a rip off.
unless the price is $ 0.99
this, and not a cent more, seems to be
a realistic price.
any offer above is rip-off.

[WARNING: The comment below contains false information. I've published it only for the humor value, and to show how far these scammers will go to try for a link.]

Hello, I work for DirecTV, and I agree with your article that there are many scams out there. However, there is at least one company that we do license our content to for use how they please, and luckily for their users, they distribute it as a program available with no subscription.

Their website is www.digitalsatellite.xxx and they offer thousands of channels provided by DirecTV for a one-time fee of about $50. We have had issues lately with many of our subscribers switching to this cheaper service, however, we have a long-standing contract and are unable to cut their supply of programs for the next 14 years. Switching to their service therefore means that the user would get cheaper programming guarenteed for 14 years.

I am providing this information in case somebody out there cannot afford satellite TV and could take advantage of this cheaper alternative. I cannot disclose my identity because DirecTV does not want anybody to know this information.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Hahaha haha! This is one of the funniest comments received so far! The website you gave (which I obscured) is the EXACT same scam as all the others -- no big surprise.

I've just been ripped off by "digitalsatellite dot tv" and have found myself with few options. I will, however, cause them problems: I'll file complaints with the consumers bureaus in Boise and in the state of Idaho for Clickbank and its parent company. The scam is possibly only because Clickbank processes their orders. These are the people to go after.

I just found a review site a week ago, called world-web-reviews.xxx/moviestv.html . There they have a bunch of satellite to pc programs, seem like a cool idea, especially now you can hook you computer up to you TV. It seems like a really cool site, I would definitely check it out. There are a bunch of cheap softwares and websites.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Nice try, Jake. You "just found" that site because you registered it yourself on June 8th.

There is a free site that offers about 110 different channels and it is www.veetle.com they don't ask you any questions and there is a free download that will let you access these programs(on left hand side of screen). It is easy to use with a picture with each station and some stations have a schedule below. Also you can use the full frame of your monitor without losing resolution.

I purchased the Satellite Direct TV for PC and I cannot even get it to run on my PC. I install the program ad then I received an error message "P9 system.invalidoperationexception". Then I receive an "E503 access is denied error". Does anyone know how to correct those error messages. I know I got scammed, but I would like to at least get to try the program.

Thanks PaulF

There are free programs out there that give you live TV that are not scams, such as this British TV program: http://tiny.cc/britishtv

This program lets you watch a lot of channels from Britain for free. That website must be watched often for updates, as the program often stops working, but is usually updated promptly.
