Ranjit, and all other European soccer fans: your best bet to watch the English Premier League or UEFA Champions League is Setanta sports (http://na.setanta.tv/na_index.htm). It is available through DirecTV cable or Dish Network (http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/whats_on_dish/a_la_carte) or even on your PC through Setanta by Broadband (http://play.www.setanta.servecast.net/setanta/us/default.aspx?aff=1). It is about $15 per month.

Satellite TV stinks. The only channels I watch on TV are the Independent Film Channel (IFC) and Sundance Channel. There is a free opensource non-malicious software download at http://www.getmiro.com. Its called Miro. It's a video player, rss aggregator of video, video downloader, and bittorrent software. Its available for many operating systems. I'm using it on the linux operating system, Ubuntu Feisty 7.04 You may remember this app as being called Democracy Player a while back. It basically plays video. It downloads video blogs. It plays episodes from the blogs. It downloads bittorrent files. Its not Satellite TV, so before ditching your Cable or TV Satellite Receiver you might want to try it out first. I use it as an addition to my Satellite TV receiver from Dish Network. Maybe one day I'll ditch the Dish. Make sure to download it from http://getmiro.com though and don't pay money for it because anyone trying to charge you for it would be scamming you. Sorry about the length of the post. Beleive me I could go on and on.

I downloaded a free program from a developer and its ok, its not satellite as you say. But I want to point out one thing in some of your comments, you are telling people if you watch things like the simpsons and other programs on free TV you say its illegal, thats is completely false. I use America Onlines Winamp Pro that I purchased and according to AOL it is completely legal to view or download the streams they offer.

EDITOR'S NOTE: If you are viewing video streams that AOL offers, then fine. One assumes that AOL has been given permission from the copyright holder to do so. But that doesn't give you carte blanche to view ANYTHING with Winamp Pro. Winamp is a just tool, it can be used for good or evil. Purchasing Winamp does not give you any special rights, and it's also possible to view the AOL videos with many other viewers.

What disappointed me was that I had to search so long and hard to find this page. I mean it seemed pretty obvious that this tv4pc was a likely scam but extensive searches on Google never showed anything. I saw this page listed on Yahoo but it was far down on the list of results.

EDITOR'S NOTE: I found the link pretty close to the top when I search for "free satellite tv on pc" at Google. But it IS sad that the top hits are all links to the bogus software.

Do you know if this site.. sattelitetvcube.com for $49.99 you can get free TV on your computer??? I was told by someone that they are a SCAM...

Thanks for your website. I tried a couple of demo's and any godd sites , ie. ESPN, Discovery and such never laoded. NASA was quick and pretty neat. But NOT Sat 2 PC is not worth the trouble (unless you are Yao Ming wanting news from back home. Thanks for the warnings.

BTW I'm cashing your DTV payroll checks and donating them to poor webmasters. ; )

Whew! I'm so glad I found this site. I knew it was too good to be true! LOL. There were two different sites (satellitetvtopc & Satube.com) for tv on PC and the wording on the ads were similar. Even the so called "feedbacks" were almost exactly the same! Shame on those scam artists!

EDITOR'S NOTE: It looks like another one of those "sharing" sites where people can make their video streams available for others to view. Definitely not 100% legal, I can't imagine it will be long before they are forced to shut down.

I have always thought these software programs to be little more then just a directory for free internet tv feeds from around the world. Many of which are listed on the satellite site, www.lyngsat.com. It makes sense that if a channel can be received free using a dish and free-to-air type of receiver box, then they probably provide a free feed via the net too (and most do). Some claim to offer free games from major league sports like the NHL and NBA. I suspect this untrue as well. I do have an observation to ask Bob about: If you are trying to keep people from buying these ripoff programs, then why do you have Ads from Google (at the top of this page) that promote them?? If the links Google provides goes to these scammers, then you should take them off.

EDITOR'S NOTE: I understand the problem. The Google ads are supposed to be relevant to the content of the page, and in an ironic way, even those scam ads are. My hope is that people will actually *READ* the article and understand why they should NOT believe the hype.

I have Satellite TV coming through my internet. It did cost me about $49. Very nice is my only verdict. Yes you get thousands of channels or TV and Radio. All major TV channels are available. But not all local TV channels of your particular may be available. But this is a very cheap option and you can watch TV on your pc without buying an extra TV and any time or anywhere you want in the world as long as you are connected to the internet. I purchased the "satellite TV on PC" for $49 and I have nothing but positive feedback. I do not understand how some of you try to call it a scam? I live far from big cities, and this software has been just fantastic. I think of the $50 that I paid as price for someone's time who put together all these channels in one single place, and it's well worth it.

EDITOR'S NOTE: If you're happy paying for a list of public websites that offer streaming tv broadcasts, then fine. You seem to realize that it's NOT "Free Satellite TV" or anything like it. The people that offer the Satellite TV on PC software lead others to believe that they'll be getting free HBO, ESPN, etc. That is clearly a scam.

Hi everyone, I searched long and hard before finding a decent review (and used this discussion as well) but I've been using a service that I found through a review -

and it has provided me with the channels I wanted. Not sure what you guys think but might be worth a look. I did try some other services which were, to be quite frank, USELESS but this one has been the best one I've used yet by far.

Thanks for the insight. I installed a free version of one of these softwares (yes, I know...when they write "blah blah for free" you are assured that if you really want it you are going to have to pay) and after looking at the list of channels that would become available if I paid I was tempted. Reading your remarks above prevented me from wasting $40, since I than realised that indeed everything that was offered I can get for free from the channels website.

Hi, even though I knew it was a scam, I thought about trying one of these services out (thanks to you I didn't) because I live in Mexico and I can't get the programs I want because of my IP address. Is there a place where I can watch Channels like ABC, FOX, etc... for free, being outside the US?
