I have always found 10 confusing, Perhaps it is time to go back to 7 where i am comfortable, or perhaps Linux?
Are there any suggestions for a alternate operating system?
Cheers
Oliver

GodMode is an awesome tip/tool. Thanks!

I found the easiest way to transition to Win 10 is Classic Shell. It makes most of the controls work in a way that is similar to Win 7.

Bob:

You CAN pin a GodMode link to the Quicklaunch and Taskbars. I did it on my laptop a few weeks ago. I hover over the Quicklaunch icon and 'Control Panel' appears. And I left-click Start and Control Panel appears to the right of the menu list.

It was hard to do this and I don't remember how I did it but it can be done. My desktop W10 clearly displayed Control Panel, so each version is unique, as you say.

Hopefully another one of your readers will provide the steps to display it. Sorry I can't remember.

Thanks for the Godmode tip, I will try it! I recently had to work in the Setting folder and it is confusing. Ex: open the System selection to get to Add/Uninstall Programs.
I did find an item REALLY confusing to me and perhaps you are planning to cover. What is up with signing in with a Microsoft account then your do not have Administrator rights? This is confusing to me! How do I work with this? What happens exactly when I right click on a program and it has a selection to Run as Administrator?
Anyway keep going I am sure there are many items to work thru on this Windows 10 exploration 'Tips'.
Oliiver Fleming: I installed Linus Mint Mate on an older Dell laptop running XP Pro. It is fine but will take sometime to get used to how other programs are installed. I have done it, but it is not just click a download and install button.

Oliver Fleming: I switched to Linux almost 3 years ago and I've never regretted it. I started out with Mint and have since moved to Manjaro. And I've tried Ubuntu. All of those 3 are easy to learn, you really don't need command line and they're much safer than Windows. When I switched I went dual-boot so I could go back to Windows if I wasn't happy, but I never went back once. Get someone who knows Linux to set you up, or if you're comfortable doing it yourself go ahead. Set up a dual-boot and see how it goes.

I saw your GodMode link in, I believe, one of your earlier posts. I went for it and easily added it as an icon (short cut)
on my desktop. Right clicking on the desktop icon allows me to pin it to Quick Access, pin it to Start Menu, etc.

I started using Edge after I installed Windows 10, and never changed it. It's much faster than the other browsers, and for my purposes it works OK. Once in awhile I need to open Firefox or Explorer for certain tasks, but maybe once every couple months. btw, I'm retired, so not exactly a power user anymore.

@oliver
I too switched my Windows machine back to WIN7. Although, my everyday OS is Ubuntu-Mate. This is a very easy Linux flavor to learn. There is even a theme to make it look like Win7, although I prefer the traditional Ubuntu theme.

I feel like I've eaten from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Microsoft. Err, cough, cough. I meant Good and Evil. I don't know just how useful this will prove, But it looks great! And I am excited to have a NEW desktop folder....and one that recognized my importance!

Bob,

My alternative to being unable to create a shortcut for GodMode is to simply to create a folder named GodMode on the desktop then drag/drop the GodMode icon to the folder.

Hi Bob. I have another menu tip for you. If you want an app that starts with "W", click on one of the headings and you'll be presented with a table of all of the headings, with the unused ones grayed out. Click on "W" and you will be taken to the "W" section of the menu.

TO MAKE MY WIN 10 START EASIER FOR THIS OLD WIN 7 USER, I INSTALLED A WIN 7 SHELL TOOL THAT MAKES THE WIN 10, START MENU APPEAR AND FUNCTION LIKE IT USED TO IN WIN 7

Bob, I use Edge all the time. Once you get use to it, it's faster and safer than IE11. I still use IE sometimes and as a 2nd browser.

Don't under estimate the number of Edge users. Our Microsoft Store employees say most of their customers are using Edge now.

Like Windows 10, once you get use to it, it's good and similar to Win 7. There is just a small learning curve.

(1) I use Edge. I find it faster than Chrome and just as user-friendly. I tried Chrome twice but both times it eventually did not play nicely with my Hotmail account.
(2) I turned off my Libraries but they're still there in File Explorer. (I agree that they just add confusion.)

Thank you for this tip about control panel. My touch pad settings were driving me nuts by re-sizing my screen every time my hands would come in contact with it. Bye bye multi finger gestures.

I always use Edge. I gave up on Chrome a long time ago, it keeps wanting to make changes in my system. I learned long ago that I have far less problems with my computer if I just leave it alone and use it rather than trying to improve it by changing things.

Edge is a cookie generator for me. When I run anti malware software I find considerably more tracking cookies in Edge and Internet Explorer folders than with Firefox or Chrome. In my experience, worst to best is Edge, Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox.
