I sent Bob and Kim Kommando an email about my Red X's. I've checked the sites and no answer to my problem is there.

I use Windows Vista Home Premium. When I pull down the help menu, and I desparately need it with this program, all graphics are red x'ed. I do not know how to get into the firewall or windows Defender to check options there. I did check my anti virus and spyware programs and they're not the problem as far as I know.

i have internet explorer 5.5, i have windows 95,i have tried everything anyone has suggested, worldstart doesn't have the answer, i guess bob doesn't either.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Yikes, a computer online with Windows 95 and IE5.5 these days is like driving a 1972 Ford Pinto. (See http://www.stayfreemagazine.org/images/23/pinto.jpg) I'm surprised ANYTHING works. Please understand, this is not mockery, it's a safety issue.

I'm getting red "x"s only on Amazon's website. Every other website I visit is fine. Also, the ads show up on Amazon but not their buttons. Thanks for any advice.

EDITOR'S NOTE: It's odd for it to affect only one site. Can you right-click on the X and select "View Image"?

An update to my previous post, here is the message I receive: Firefox can't find the server at g-ecx.images-amazon.com.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Was it a temporary problem? This URL works for me: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/318Z30NYQ9L._AA280_.jpg

The problem was definately not temporary and still exists today.

Scot, I was also receiving the Amazon red-x issue. What I found was that it appears Amazon changed the site hosting their images or their CNAME. I was able to fix this (temporary fix) by editing my hosts file adding the following two lines:

209.8.115.118 ecx.images-amazon.com

209.8.115.111 g-ecx.images-amazon.com

The permanent fix is to contact your DNS Admin and have them update this information by performing the following:

http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/list/en-us/default.aspx?query=ecx.images-amazon.com&dg=microsoft.public.windows.server.dns&cat=en_us_a10eb074-42a2-47bb-ae2f-8ff9efe57b80&lang=en&cr=us&pt=&catlist=&dglist=&ptlist=&exp=&sloc=en-us

I have Mozilla Firefox and I can't forward pictures in my email--any suggestions?

EDITOR'S NOTE: Firefox is a web browser, and has nothing to do with your email program. What email client do you use?

Hi All,

I just Want to thank all of you, especially the author of this post "The "Show Pictures" setting has been turned off in Internet Explorer.

Solution: In Internet Explorer's Tools menu, click Internet Options, then click the Advanced tab. Make sure the Show Pictures check box is selected under Multimedia, and click OK."

Big Thanks again to the Gentelman who posted this massege, it has resolved my problem.

God Bless

I am using Mozilla Thunderbird with my XP computer and when I get e-mail from webtv people and/or I.E. or O.E. I get the dreaded red x instead of an image.

I have checked all my settings and can't find one to enable the image from these locations. It doesn't happen all the time.

I'm the Ryan C with the solution listed at http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups however it is no longer working for us.

Fighting thru it again but the real issue is that the hosting company Amazon is using is breaking standards in the way they are using DNS.

Our users have XP sp2, IE6 and Outlook 2003 and several people were having the red X issue in email which we fixed with the following:

Go into registry, 1. Locate the Outlook Temporary Items folder by opening the Registry and locating

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Security\OutlookSecureTempFolder

2. Navigate to the value of this Key. It should be something like: %USERPROFILE%\LocalSettings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK3D\ where OLK3D is some randomly generated string that always starts with OLK

3. Quit Outlook

4. Delete the contents of the folder

5. Launch Outlook

Unfortunately on some pcs the problem keeps reoccurring. Do any of you know why this keeps happening and what the permanent fix is?

Permanent fix is (as permanent as a MS product can be)...

Go into registry,

1. Locate the Outlook Temporary Items folder by opening the Registry and locating

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Security\OutlookSecureTempFolder

2. Change the 'OutlookSecureTempFolder' key DATA value to: C:\documents and settings\"userprofile name"\Local Settings\Temp

Example on my machine the key value was:

C:\documents and settings\inetmann\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

Changed it to:

C:\documents and settings\inetmann\Local Settings\Temp

Enjoy!

I just had high speed installed. AT&T is my high speed provider. When I use AOL, sometimes I get a red X instead of a picture in mail. It's only in mail. Websites work fine. It worked fine before I got the high speed. I checked all my settings and images are allowed on everything. Any suggestions? I'm baffled.

Found the answer. It is port 6103. Open TCP port 6103 on your firewall and Viola. Have your Network guys open this for Any (source), Any (destination) on the LAN to WAN zone. We use SonicWall firewalls, but it is pretty much the same across the board. Hope this helps. This solved all our Red X issues we were seeing.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Very odd... Port 6103 is used for Real Estate transactions. I can't see why this would help, but good for you if it solved the problem.

Microsoft Outlook printing red X instead of graphics -

If I print from the Preview Pane MS Outlook 2003 replaces the graphics with the red X.

FIX: Simply double-click the email to open it in its own window. Printing from the new window should work correctly. (Okay, it's not really a fix, per se, but it gets the job done! :-))

I'm trying to download adobe flash player, when I click the yellow button to download, I get to the next page. Where normally a box would appear telling me to run or install I get nothing. There is a red x, but below that I can see the image of a screen dump as part of the instructions. I am not a techie and this is driving me nuts. When I try to use youtube.com I can't see a video because I don't have flash player. Please help!
