Will my current programs work on windows 10? I have a couple of expensive programs I wouldn't like to lose.

EDITOR'S NOTE: If it works on WIndows 7 or 8, it should work on Windows 10.

I reserved my copy of Windows 10 . . . but a message from Microsoft in on of their pop-up boxes about Windows 10 says my Norton Anti-Virus won't work with Windows 10. I get Norton AV through my ISP (Qwest). I believe my Norton AV is the latest version. Any word on whether anti-virus programs will be ready for Windows 10?

EDITOR'S NOTE: Norton says: "don't worry, there will be a Windows 10 compatibility update to your Norton product coming soon"

Which is better, Windows 7 or 10? Kindly compare the two.

Will you still be able to run Windows XP programs under Windows 10?

I do have the the Windows 10 icon, but am mulling whether to go ahead and reserve. My machines currently run Win 7 Pro; will I receive the edition that allows me to choose the CBB option?

The message in the icon states that we have the option of installing immediately after downloading, or at a time more convenient. Does anyone know if the timing of the installation is truly flexible? And does anyone know if there will be constant nag screens until the upgrade is completed?

Another Q: Will programs have to be reinstalled after the upgrade?

EDITOR'S NOTE: No.

I'm informed that Paragon 11 hard disk manager will have problems on Windows 10. Any knowledge on this?

The little icon has appeared on my PCs.

Having suffered the hardware pains of printers and scanners and other peripheral devices not working after upgrading from Windows 95 to Windows 98SE, then to Windows XP and then again to Windows 7, I'm taking a wait and see attitude. I'm in no mood to have to buy new external hardware because a vendor has decided not to update the drivers for their hardware to work under Windows 10.

Everything I have works fine under Windows 7 and since MS will support it for many years to come I don't see any pressing reason to go the Windows 10 route.

Only after others have installed it and the reviews are extremely positive, and I know for certain that my external peripherals will work, I might change my mind.

Today I received the Windows 10 icon. Is there a Windows 10 Professional? (I am running W7 professional) Does it cost? How do I get it? Should I get it? I do some heavy cpu-usage work.(i.e. Protools 11 and other audio applications.

so your saying, find some thing to do while windows
gets installed. hours gees.how many do you figure?

EDITOR'S NOTE: I did it on a slow, older laptop, and it took less than 2 hours. Probably not that long on a modern PC.

Windows Media Center is gone. What will replace it? I also read that ATL –TAB shortcut will changes. Somethings should be left alone.

Will my old copy of Microsoft Word 2002 still work and if it doesn't how can I still open and read documents from that version of Word? I currently use Windows 7 and didn't upgrade to 8 as Word wouldn't work on that program.

EDITOR'S NOTE: If it works on Win7, I would expect it to work on WIndows 10.

Does the version of Windows 10 you get depend on the version of Windows 7 you have installed? For instance, Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro? Also how many versions of Windows 10 will there be?

EDITOR'S NOTE: You are correct. See http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2015/06/which-version-of-windows-10-will-you-get-with-your-free-upgrade/

Free?? May be for now but you'll pay for something very soon. Microsoft is baiting the hook.

I have always been a little hesitant when it comes to Windows updates set to automatically download and install. The messed up updates we have had over this year, with Microsoft not taking any liability for messed up systems, has made me even more cautious, preferring to hold back a few days to see what plays out on the latest updates. Other than that I am looking forward to Windows 10. Preferably I would very much like to retain Windows 7 possibly in a virtual environment. To date, for me at least Windows 7 is the best thing to come from Microsoft. Windows 10 do look exciting.

Since my DSL is 680 MB/S (about half of your slow DSL estimate), can I expect a ten hour download? Unlikely to complete with out an error. How does one get a CD (DVD)?

In your news letter you stated the following... (Updates will be distributed to users based upon which edition of Windows 10 they have.) Should this read which edition of "Windows 7" they have?

EDITOR'S NOTE: Yes, typo. More precisely, it should be "which edition of Windows they have."

Currently run a Dell D620 laptop with XP Pro and home built tower running Win7 Pro OEM with Virtual PC and XP license to run a required program (no longer avail or upgraded and cannot run passes XP).
With Win 10 upgrade do I loose VPC and XP lic.?
If i upgrade can i take my Win7 Pro OEM CD and then load onto my laptop and then get rid of XP?

EDITOR'S NOTE: My guess is that your VPC/XP setup will continue to work after upgrading to Windows 10. And you should be able to install Win7 on your laptop. There's a possibility that the installer may complain that the license is already in use, but you can call Microsoft and get over that hurdle.

Bob; There is as far as I am aware the possibility, that if your current machine has plenty of computer drive storage, you may be able to set up a dual boot configuration. I know you could do that with XP and Windows 7 Professional, but will you be able to do that with Windows 10?

EDITOR'S NOTE: Yes, but probably not if you opt for the automatic upgrade. You'll need to stay tuned for information on how to download the ISO and burn it to disc.

I don't see any other option but to get it as soon as it's available. I purchased a new computer two years ago and opted for Win 7 as there seemed to be so many problems with Win 8, albeit accepting I was buying software that had just been superseded.
But now Win 7 must be getting on for halfway through its life and Win 10 looks a great improvement and it's free.
What is there not to like?
