Got Windows 10? Do These 5 Things NOW... - Comments Page 1

I agree Windows 10 is a lot better than 8, but very disappointing in the simple things. Games, in particular, not everyone wants to be connected to the x-box store to play a quick game of solitaire. Not everyone wants to be connected to the cloud. I want my Windows 7 games on my computer and not connected to any thing. |

If you are already running Windows 7, what is the purpose of uploading Windows 10 except for the fact that Microsoft will support our software |

Thanks for the heads up Bob. |

Personalized or non-personalized ads - what's the difference? Ad blockers handle them both and I don't see either or them. Except on sites I choose to support, like this one. |

Just upgraded, no choice. |

I like the targeted add. Every week or so I spend a few minutes clicking on add I have no interest in and couldn't use if I wanted to. I then get the add for the next week or so. This is much less of a distraction than something I may have an interest in. |

I'm still considering the pro's and con's of Windows 10 v. Windows 7. The privacy issues really concern me. I'm not on any social media, don't use WiFi, Skype, etc. The fact that Windows 10 is "pushing" these on users is, to me, a bit scary as well as annoying. Windows 7 is looking better and better as time goes by. However, "the jury is still out." A friend and his wife have tried Windows 10 only to go back to their Windows 8.1. Not everyone is singing the praises of Windows 10. I'm waiting for a couple or so months to see what happens and then will decide what to do. |

I'm hesitating to download W10 soon because of the bug issues with the initial release of W8. Have you noticed any bugs? |

I downloaded this new program a couple of days ago and since then I have lost my pictures, my documents, and several programs that I use almost daily. Now I realize that Microsoft wants me use the programs that they support, but there are some that I just don't care for, so this makes the transition to "10" a little more difficult. I know all the folders I have "lost" are somewhere, it just takes a little while to figure out where they have been mover. Kind of frustrating, but the general program is likeable, albeit, difficult to master. |

I'm with several of the other commenters. I paid good money for computers with Windows 7 instead of Windows 8. I have a ton of application programs which I know run on Windows 7 and have no idea whether they'll work on Windows 10. I've yet to hear any substantial advantage Windows 10 has over Windows 7. (I could care less about Cortana. I don't want WUDO or Wifi sense. My computer is quite fast enough for my needs.) And I certainly don't want be an early adopter for a new operating system. So I intend to keep Windows 7 for just as long as possible. My biggest fear is that I'll make a mistake and accidentally accept the Windows 10 upgrade offer, and be screwed. |

Well written article Bob. Thanks for the very good info re the privacy issues. I have been using the beta version of Windows 10 since last November and last week I did the upgrade to the version released on July 29th. On balance, Microsoft has made a lot of improvements in the OS...they have addressed most of the issues that were annoying/upsetting the Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 users. I like the improved speed and also the fact that they have radically improved navigation with this system. You can find things easily now on your computer and that is a major improvement over all previous operating systems. |

Thanks for a great article Bob. The thing that I find interesting is that no one seems to have noticed this: “Microsoft collects data... You provide some of this data directly, such as when you ... upload a document to OneDrive, ..." So, anything you save in their cloud is being scanned and analyzed even in an aspect you might expect to be private, i.e. your documents. People really should be aware of privacy issues when storing data. |

Answer to David Wiener, you wil not be screwed, Microsoft give you 30 days to try Windows 10, if you do not like you can revert back to your old OS so no problem. |
