I run Windows on Bootcamp on my Mac. It says the bluetooth function won't work when I upgrade to Win 10. Any ideas about this? Thanks so much.

Excellent article Bob.

I have not yet installed the new Win10 as I expected quite a few errors, glitches, etc. so are waiting for the OK from my techy friends when they say, Go for it. This type of article is great and shows a need for due diligence before downloading the new software for Win10 or anything.

Keep up the great work,
Mike

Will the Media Creation Tool work even if what is installed on the machine is an old Enterprise edition for which the original organizational license was prior to Windows 10 and has now expired?

Bob,

Many users are still trying to install the November update for Windows 10. I have tried using the Media Creation Tool, performing a clean boot, renaming folders in the SoftwareDistribiution folder and other ideas that Microsoft have come up with. They all fail.

I hope Redstone can fix whatever is preventing my system from updating!

I run windows 10 on an HP Pavilion TouchSmart Notebook. I use a mouse and disable the touchpad. Every time my machine reboots, this setting is wiped out, and I have to go to "settings" and perform 3 or 4 additional steps to check the box to disable the touchpad again. This isn't a big deal, but it IS annoying after a while. I wish someone could help me out.

Just one simple question: as part of a rural minority with 5 gigs/month metered moboile would you move to Win 10 64? Not sure there is even a way to keep 7 going and have anything left to avoid an os becoming life's rasison d'etre. It seems MS as Bill Gates would know about countries, some fail to treat their minorities fairly.

I was stupid enough to download this piece of sh*t on two computers. About the only thing that works are the adverts to upgrade my Office and other Microsoft programs.

I tried to see if I had the November update, but it is hard to do when anytime you go to use the start menu, you get an error message stating "Your Start menu isn't working. We'll try to fix it the next time you sign in." Then you have to sign out, which turns off the computer.

It will not open even Microsoft products. The only way I can start a new Word of Excel is to open an old one and go to Open - New.

I have been using DOS based products since before there was Windows (and you had a partner [danger squirrels]). I had thought that Microsoft could not get lower than ME, but I see with hard work they have managed that.

I never thought I would say this, but my solution is simple, my next computer will be a Mac. This is from someone with 5 computers with Windows, a Droid phone and a Droid tablet.

I recently upgraded to Win 10. I'm happy with it so far. I know the upgrade has made a backup copy of my Windows 7 called Windows.old. Should I go ahead and delete the old OS or are there utilities that can do that? Any suggestions to remove the old as it takes up lots of storage space?

EDITOR'S NOTE: Frank, I recommend using the Disk Cleanup feature to get rid that, and some other junk.

I had a laptop that says it was not compatible with Windows 10 and would refuse to do the upgrade.

After some Googling turned out that updating the chipset drivers would allow the upgrade to work.

Hi... just thought I'd put in some good news. I upgraded to Win 10 (from Win 7) about 6 weeks ago and have had absolutely no problems. I use a 3-year-old laptop. The upgrade did take 2+ hours, but that was the only "negative" about the whole process. All of my peripherals/accessories/programs worked first time - even some very old apps that I was worried about.
Interestingly, when I tried to check my version of Win 10 using your instructions, I couldn't find the "Search" option in my Start menu. So I went to settings and clicked on system. That told me that I had the November update.

Two of the computers that I use are W7 Pro 64 bit systems. One of them is used to turn a "smart" TV into a "smarter" TV. The other computer is the one I am concerned about in regards to W10. I run a software package for music production on it and the manufacturer of that package has not, as of yet, provided W10 compatibility. I certainly hope that the manufacturer doesn't wait until July 28 to announce W10 compatibility. That could provide for some tense moments in regards to our music recording and production. I am caught between the proverbial "rock and...". My original intentions were to update both at the same time. After reading the comments here and in "7 good things about Windows 10", I am not sure if I will upgrade either one. (Maybe go back to analog music recording)

Fell for it again.

Fast startup. No entry in power options. Head scratch. Frustration. Google. Zip. Headdesk. Lightbulb.

Almost the first thing I do on a new OS installation is turn off hibernation. I hate hibernation. It drives me crazy, and it causes a host of problems.

With hibernation disabled, fast startup isn't an option. Duh.

I post this just in case some other idiot forgets the tweaks she's made to her install.

Duane - (and others afraid that legacy programs won't run on W10)

I have this situation on one W7 laptop, and am approaching it this way:

1. Clone HD to a new HD
2. Swap HDs
3. Boot PC and run W10 upgrade
4. Test and troubleshoot PC
5. If happy, keep going. If not happy, swap out HDs and go back to W7.

W10 is SUPPOSED to let you revert back to your previous version within 30 days if you're not pleased, but my approach is less hassle in the long run.

The auto fill function still doesn't function in MS Edge properly as it did in IE 11. When are he geniuses at Microsoft plan to fix this fault. I've followed their so called work around but it only works some of the time. It depends on the website where I'm using the auto fill function. I'm not interested in going back to IE 11 as I like the others capabilities of MS Edge. What are your thoughts? Have you tried the auto fill function in MS Edge?

Bob

I tried the Safe Mode procedure you mentioned by going to
http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-add-safe-mode-to-boot-menu-in-windows-8-1/

I opened the CMD prompt but was not in Administrator, so I right clicked on the Windows logo (lower left of Task bar) and selected command prompt (Admin).

I tried it again but failed as I was in the wrong directory, so I cd\windows\system32
This time it completed correctly and I went into MSCONFIG to check safe mode and set a 3 second timer.

After applying and given it an OK, my system rebooted.

A window opened providing two selections Windows 10 and Safe Mode.

The screen remained until I manually selected Windows 10.

I was under the impression that the screen would only be there for 3 seconds and automatically continue on to Windows 10??

I think it IS rocket science. When I GWX, I know I will be glad to have this one. Thanx, again, Bob.

Santa brought me a new desktop with Win 10 installed - what a mess getting it to perform like my older machine Win 7. You would think that after almost 30 years of Windows MS might do a little better. Yesterday Win10 declared that my laser printer was offline (?). MS is always trying some quirky update which is intrusive and monopolistic. I manage and love the 15 second start-up, but all in all this OS is simply not ready for prime time. Meanwhile my iMac runs like a freaking rocket.
