the only thing about windows 10 I have found, it just isn't for me. the biggest annoyance is windows 10 it's self. Junk!!!.than you, but no thanks to 10.Will scrap all my computers when the good and best systems are no longer available.

Biggest annoyance for me - my home network won't stay connected. I use a Win 7 and a Win 10 desktop - they connect and then overnight - poof -- the connection is gone. Usually have to reboot the Win 7 to get connection going again, but even that doesn't always work. Can see the Win 7 from the Win 10, but not the other way around when they disconnect - seems to change everyday - some days they are connected; others, not so much :-(

Bob, I teach seniors how to use computers and we focus on Windows 10, which I have found to be a pretty good OS overall. There are some annoying features as you pointed out, but overall its not bad. I am not a fan of Edge as a local news journalist. The search results in Bing are poor compared to Google and to shortcut a website to the desktop takes something like 3-steps instead of just being able to drag-and-drop to the desktop or right-click to send shortcut to desktop. Finally, Microsoft needs to extend the free upgrade to Windows 10. Many of the seniors did not know how to do it or received bad advice from a friend or relative to not do it...even though you can roll back to Windows 7 or 8. Thanks for the great information you continue to provide readers.

I was hit by Cryptolocker today. I agreed to an update of my Firefox system because it always acts like a pig as many will agree. However, this was not the full-page warning in red but an innocuous box in bottom toolbar at right giving me two options to 'update now' or 'not now' choices.

Searched Google and found that this has major coverage of Fox being used by Cryptolocker. Why
are we not warned?

Engineer says that, of course I lose all files,
but that he can remove the offender by downloading a fresh Windows 8.1 DO YOU AGREE please?

The most annoying feature I've encountered is W10's refusal to let me copy an image or a string of text and paste it into a WORD or PPT document. When I try to do it I get a message that says "WORD has sopped working and will close", then it tells me that it will 'Look for a solution', then it closes the program. Why? The program was working just fine before I tried to paste something into it. I never had this problem with any previous versions of WORD or PPT from Windows 95 to Windows 8.

Hi Bob. Windows 10 (anniversary update) works great for me but I am the exception (as you know I am an IT guy). I have it customized and I use Classic Shell to make it look the way I want. I turned off Cortana. I turned off automatic updates by going to control panel->administrative tools->services and disabled Windows update service. Then I turn it on every day or so (and especially on Tuesdays - Microsoft update days) and manually check for updates. (I don't recommend others do this unless they scrupulously remember to check for updates.)

Every version of Windows has its annoyances but I can usually find a workaround without messing with the registry. I don't see Cortana, Edge, Bing, or any of the other invariably useless Microsoft apps on my screen and have been able to eliminate almost all useless gee-whiz graphics.

One annoyance I have been unable to permanently remove in Win 10 is the language bar which is useless to me and wastes space on my taskbar. Has a solution been found?

Widows 10 said my laptop was good to upgrade then it drops my Bluetooth driver as well as my touch pad driver and won't let me reinstall. Dell does not have new drivers for these and doesn't plan to. I think it is sad the M$ allows this and does nothing to fix it. I will be going back to windows 7 on my 2002 Dell Inspiron (expensive laptop for someone on a pension).

My bigest complaint is that I get a popup saying my Yahoo and Gmail accounts are out of date when I use Outlook I have to log back in as many as a dozen times. Googling shows that a lot of others have that problem. MSFT is in no hurry to fix it.
At one point I even had to change my password. It would not recognize my @msn account which I have had for over 29 yrs. Says the password is wrong. No problem using it with my android tablet/

Internet explorer still crashes several times a day, many websites take forever to open, that on win7 work fine. Saving shortcuts for sites like Hulu, Amazon Video change from the correct icon to a Globe and can not be changed back, you can use one from the library.
Often when searching the result shows up in Edge instead of my Prefered IE browser

I am so lucky!! I installed it when it first came out. I have no problems like those listed. It runs smoothly and has no hang ups. Cortana doesn't bother me,edge doesn't get in my way, and it is pretty simple to do the fix's you have provided regarding info. going to Microsoft.

A recent and very irritating feature of W10 is that it uses Exif tags on photos to automatically display them in their correct visual orientation, but the actual file is of course in its original orientation. So when you upload the picture somewhere like Facebook or Ebay or into a document it loads sideways.

The only solution I've found is to use File Properties to wipe or edit the Exif tags but first you have to know which pics are sideways and they all look 'right' because W10 displays them 'right' even when they're wrong.

Another complaint is that you can only type within this box without extending the text below any further.

By the way since these annoyances are part of W10 OS. You can call MSFT Tech Support 1-800-642-7676 for help. if you want to allow them to fix the problem they can look into the computer and fix it from their end.

I've been using Windows 10 for a year on one of our machines and updated the other two recently, including the anniversary update. I'm satisfied with only a few minor problems. One that is annoying tho is "Switch User" on our Dell Desktop is often, not always but frequently, very slow as in 60 seconds or so slow. Do you know of a fix for this? I've looked but haven't found anything useful yet.

Three years ago purchased a new laptop, kept the old as a back-up & as a travel PC. Had Win8, MS found out by spying and I upgraded to free Win8.1. Then later took the free offer to Win10. Nothing but big nasty problems. First time ever I had to pay & get outside help. Now everything is back like it was, with Win8, which I hate.
Recently my employers PCs using Win7, was hijacked by MS which started to upgrade without our permission to Win10. Each time was able to stop it at the last minute. If we had to leave our desk, we were forced to turn off & reboot each time.

Terrible problem just occurred. I was following your instructions, saw that Edge had 2 of 9 defaults. I accidently clicked "Set this program as default". When I saw my mistake I went to "Choose defaults for this program", and it WON'T LET me uncheck the 9 defaults!!! What do I do now????

What is really happening is that MS has created a situation that allows them to actually own every bodies machine without their permission and without them knowing it. They hijack, They spy, they enter, they access, they change, they do what they want with our property, which we paid for, which we own, all because we have their product in our machines. They have a near monopoly and they know it.
When we buy any product, does the seller come into our homes (without our permission and without our knowledge? And access that product, do what the want with it? Change it? I think not!!

There's a problem with your hint for not having to sign in with a Microsoft acct. When you “sign in with a local account instead” it not only asks you for your name, password, to re-enter your password, it also asks you for your password hint. Now I keep pretty good records of my passwords, but even I don't keep track of my password hints, word for word. - Come on. That's ridiculous. Why the heck do I have to sign into my own computer when it never leaves my home?

EDITOR'S NOTE: You can always click to show your password hint, if you forget the password. You can even leave the password empty, and that effectively removes the need for it.

What I'd like to know is just why Win10 doesn't not allow you to place web shortcuts on the desktop. In the firest addition, I worked around it by minimizing IE (not Edge) then drag and drop the shortcut to the desktop. I thought I conquered the world only to find MS conquered me instead

@Frank - to create a web shortcut on the Win10 desktop:
(a) go to the website,
(b) 'copy' the URL (web address),
(c) right-click an empty place on the desktop, and go to 'New' --> Shortcut,
(d) 'paste' in the URL you had copied from Step B,
(e) press Enter.
(f) Finally, right-click on the new desktop shortcut, and rename it as desired.
