I was able to copy my VHS to DVD via player to TV to DVD. However when watching the DVD it freezes and then skips back plays to the freeze again and then skips back. Can anyone offer any suggestions of how to prevent the DVD from freezing. EDITOR'S NOTE: Are you watching in on a TV or the PC? Does the skipping happen both ways? |

Does anyone know if a combo unit (vhs/dvd) can create chapters for each separate video recorded? IMPORTANT: I then need the chapters to be separately recognized on a computer, so that I could individually upload them to to my Youtube. So far I've only seen large VOB files on the dvd when loaded in the computer (not being able to easily extract separate chapters). Is this possible? I don't require the dvd to be viewable on standard set-top dvd players - just accesable in my computer dvd drive. If it sounds reasonable, which combo unit should I buy? thanks |

I have a Dell Media Center laptop with an express card TV tuner. It works great for live TV, but when I hook up my VCR with the intent to transfer my VHS tapes to video, I get the audio, but no video, just a blue screen. The wierd thing is when I fast forward the video using the VCR, I can see the picture. I tried connecting via a cable connection, an RCA plug connection and an s-video cable. Any thoughts on how to solve this problem? Thanks!! |

I have a VHS film library of over 600 titles, and have been transferring to DVD for about a year now. First unit I bought was a Sylvania DVD/VHS recorder/player. Worked fine for awhile & then the movies started freezing up when playing back on other units. Then it got to a point where VR mode transfers wouldn't play at all, and video mode would sometimes play if finalized more than once. After more frustration, I bought a JVC unit, which appears to work better. One thing I've learned: the blank discs must be CLEAN and the laser head periodically cleaned to minimize the freeze ups. There is a good cleaning kit made by Phillips that takes care of the disks and the recording head. By the way, if anyone has figured how to get around the copyright blocks on VHS tapes, I'm all ears!! |

For those of you trying to copy copyrighted VHS Tapes or DVDs "Best Buy" and "Circuit City" sell a little device that's less than the size of a cigarette pack it's Called "GoDVD!" Made by Sima. It simply connects between your playback VHS player or your playback DVD player and then to your recording device (such as the video capture card of your PC or Your VHS/DVD combo player/recorder). This little gadget will effectively remove the copy protection of almost any VHS or DVD so that you make a viewable copy to your own DVD disc. The "GoDVD" has RCA and SVHS Inputs and Outputs connectors (RCA or composite being the Yellow for Video signal), (The Red and White for the Audio Signal)(SVHS or S Video being a higher standard video) you may choose either RCA or SVHS for your appropiate equipment. Either of these connections will work just fine for making your copy. I have been using this setup to copy my old collection of VHS Tape Movies to DVD for over a year now with no problems what so ever. This should help those looking for that CopyRight Solution. Glad to be of Help. |

For those willing to go to the trouble of double real time steps, I have successfully copied from VHS to MiniDV by carefully setting up a camcorder then recording from TV screen. Must set camcorder to manual focus. I have also copied computer playback from computer screen; LCD monitor is better than CRT. If must use CRT, set refresh rate to be compatible with camcorder, e.g., for NTSC (USA) camcorder, set computer refresh rate to 60Hz. I turn ambient lighting way down, or off. Don't let anyone walk between play screen and camcorder. Screen-to-camcorder also circumvents copyright protection, though GoDVD sounds cooler. For audio I rigged a little <<line level to mic level>> converter box. This keeps audio output from overloading the camcorder. Got schematic from online search, bought bits, soldered up. Bits total cost about US$5. Works great. |

I have a COMPAQ DESKPRO,windows xp, Pentium 3 processor speed unknom, 128mb ram, cd rewriter, dvd rom( will replace with a burner when needed ). What I need to know exactly is will NERO 6(installed) or MEDIA 9(INSTALLED) work with EXTERNAL SOURCES either alone or with a CAPTURE DEVICE with ANALOG line level inputs(vcr.dvd plaer, cassette ect) and will the capture device create and send the appropriate named.formatted file TO NERO, AND will both tell me where, how to send that file to the appropriate burner? I am an idiot at this. I need real help in simple language that I can understand. I have been told that none of the mentioned devices/programs will work with p3 chips. They are not fast enough nor do they pocess the capacity needed to do video. This makes no sence to me. HELP!!! please respond DIRECTLY TO ME VIA EMAIL reeltoreelguy@yahoo.com Thank you. |

I am also transferring my VHS to DVD with a JVC combo unit. I ran into an issue with quite a few of my tapes having a jittery picture, but when played in a seperate VCR were fine. I thought it was the JVC unit so I purchased a Samsung combo with the same result. I also tried using the seperate VCR with A/V cables and still the same. Any suggestions? EDITOR'S NOTE: You say the TAPES had a jittery picture, but you're transferring to DVDs. Are you saying there's a problem with the source tapes, or the output DVDs? |

There is an ultimate solution. It's not right for everybody, but produces very clean results and can be used for other things after all your old VHS tapes have been converted. The Standalone Series 1 TiVo units have analog inputs that can be attached to you VHS deck. They can be upgraded with a network card to download the movie files to your computer or just attach the hard drive to your computer and transfer the recordings directly. Once it's on the computer it's fairly easy to burn a DVD. I wrote this guide - http://dealdatabase.com/forum/showpost.php?p=272106&postcount=54 It takes some geekballz, but produces great results on a tight budget. |

How can you dub Disney VHS to DVD??? EDITOR'S NOTE: You'll need a device called a Stabilizer between your VHS player and your DVD recorder. It effectively removes the copy protection signal. Look for the Sima CT-200 or similar devices. |

Hello Bob, I have Hauppauge WinTV HVR card, I connect my VCR to the card and manage to view, record and copy to DVD using Windows Media Center but the image quality is poor and image shakes alot. What am I missing? EDITOR'S NOTE: It could be a lack of RAM or CPU horsepower. If you have a hotrod computer, then maybe an image stabilizer (see previous comment) will help. |

After copying ovre 100VHS tapes to DVD using a set up via scart between VHS and DVD recorder with no problems. However I have now encountered the same problem as many ie the copyright protection of Disney Videos. I have tried the Sima 200 without any luck I have almost a further 100 tapes to copy. Has anyone any ideas? the copies are only for my granddaughters personal use. EDITOR'S NOTE: It could be that they use different encoding for the DRM outside the US. I do know that others have been able to copy DIsney VHS to DVD by using a Stabilizer. Maybe you'll find other options in videohelp.com |

I have a LG RC6921W DVD/VHS recorder that copies both ways. Copying VHSC tapes to DVD I miss calculated and got "disk full". As what was being copied was just the end of the VHSC tape with nothing on it. I selected FINALIZE on the DVD. This didn't work and now I can't even play a DVD in the drive. It seems to cycle 3-4 times and then ejects the DVD. Can anyone help with this error please??? |
