7 Good Things About Windows 10 - Comments Page 2

I spent a whole day (over 12 hours) loading 10 on 5 Laptops and a Desktop. The first Laptop was ready to go in less than 30 min (I was impressed), each one got increasingly longer with the last laptop taking almost 2 hours to install (now disappointed). The Desktop was the last one I installed on, Taking almost 7 hours to get it up and running again (now VERY disappointed). Took almost 2 hours just to install, and the rest of the time to get programs and printers to work. Most of the issues involved compatibility with Edge. |

It was a bit strange at the start, but after just a couple of months i realized my four year old laptop was working better and smoother than it did with MS 7. I did ignore Edge and stuck with Google without incident. |

Thanks Smoky: Well to me windows 10 is about in the same category as windows ME was.to much of to much average people don't need nor use,me for one,I wish for a very simple system and like to chose my own storage and ease of navigating.Thank you but no thanks to windows 10,bring back XP the best of the whole mess. Thanks Ray Jensen:Bob, You must be a Microsoft paid reviewer. The seven reasons you listed are all irrelevant if the basic functions of the computer running Win10 do not perform well. Thanks Graham:Three cheers for XP, I don't need the new technology, and as a bonus the crackers and hackers should now start leaving us XP'ers alone as we become a shrinking target. THANKS, it seems there still are people that are resist brainwashing. I do not want to spend my time learning something new EXCEPT if it gives me something I do need and did not have. Whatever Bob listed did not address my needs, so no Windows 10 for me. I run 3 XP and 2 W7. Could anyone please tell me what I got in W 7 that I needed in exchange for all the auxiliary equipment that became unusable. With proper internet security - I use F-Secure on some and Avast free on some and I have so far never had any problems with XP in 10 years. I heed Bobs advice and never open mails from unknown sources. |

Windows 10 works great for me. Faster than Windows 7. I have it running on everything from a new Acer desktop system to a several year old netbook (designed to run nothing other than XP), several laptops, a Dell desktop. It runs great on all of them. I had to do a little tweaking and find the right drivers sometimes, especially for very old unsupported hardware (SCSI if you remember that), although usually Microsoft did that for me. I get 180 megabits/sec on the Internet so Internet speed is not an issue. I disabled (using administrative tools -> services) auto update and turn it on and check for updates a several times a week. That way it doesn't just update on me when I don't want it to. But don't do that unless you are scrupulous about remembering to check for updates. No, I do not now and never have worked for Microsoft. But I am happy with Windows 10. |

I've been using Windows 10 since 8/7/15, Had a couple of hick-ups but updates cleared them up. I don't have any problems with 10. All my devices and programs run. |

I have used W10 since it was officially released and like it. Wouldn't think of going back. As someone previously mentioned its constant upgrading can be a negative, especially when shutting down or starting up,but that's minor. I've used Windows since the 3.1 days and have computers running W7 & 8.1 currently. The ones with W10 are my favourite. Being a keyboard person instead of a 'mouser' I find 10 way ahead of the others once you get used to it. |

Bad things about Windows 10. It does not work with older versions of MS Office, Corel Essentials graphics and Maximizer CRM software. While Windows 10 may be free of charge, updating all the other software won't leave you much change out of $1,000. |

My Windows 10 upgrade left my Dell desktop PC prone to freezes and crashes. I had to do a complete install of Windows 10 after backing up my data to fix the problem, but then I had to reinstall all my applications. If you google "Windows 10," "upgrade," "cursor" and "freezes," you will see many people had this happen to them. Windows reminds me of that quote from Forrest Gump: My momma always said, "Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." |

I like Windows 10 for the reasons you mention in your article but Edge has not been functioning well. It is very slow, the tabs do not close when you tell it to close all tabs and it does not close at all most of the time. Videos do not play well on it. I have to use Google Chrome for those. |

I have 4 laptops and 1 media centre computer all running 10. Removing the need to enter a password at start required a different procedure or combination of processes on each one when I installed Windows 10, and in fact I have yet to find any way of turning off this requirement on the media centre machine. This is probably my biggest gripe with 10. It seems a bit quicker on some of the computers and slower on others. I do find it a big improvement on Windows 8, but not on 7. |

From the beginning of the availability of Win10, I have had no issues at all. Every item I have upgraded with Win10 to include software, hardware, VMware, partitions, etc. I first tried Win10 using the VMware as then Win10 was available as a trial version. Once the free version was ready I downloaded it, ran it, made several dozen tweaks from doing some reading from forums and Ask Bob articles... all is been great. A 10 year old HP desktop (has never ran better), my current 6 year Toshiba laptop (best ever), wife's 12 year old Toshiba laptop (has never ran better, with a small SSD & RAM upgrade). Yes I agree there are some tweaks that MS needs to complete to include Edge, but as a primary browser I use Chrome with IE 11 as a backup. Edge still needs work with their extensions and capabilities to run it. All windows users need to understand that with the way the world is working and to keep up on the tech, users need to learn with the changes. |

After beating Vista into submission on my hand-me-down Toshiba Satellite A205, I found myself being orphaned by Google's Chrome browser, with no free upgrade on offer from Microsoft. Oh, well, I've known for years that Linux beats them all. I've finally made the leap to Ubuntu, and life is good! |

Loaded free update to W10. Though it says you can revert to W7 within 30 days, have been told by IT guys that is not so. Usually have about 2 weeks. After 2 months on W10, computer froze up and everything went haywire. Had to spend close to $100 to get proper fixes loaded. IT guys commented that W10 has boosted their business due to files not loading properly from the free update! Still having problems. Wish I'd never done it. |

Upgraded my wife's ASUS laptop several months ago from Win 8. Works perfectly. I upgraded my laptop from 7 to 10 about 3 months ago and the only thing I noticed was the boot up time was now VERY quick. Loved this. Unfortunately since the last update cycle the boot up is painfully slow. I suspect I am not alone and a fix will come in the next week or two. |

My only complaint is: You are never told exactly what improvements or new features are added when you do an update. |

I bought a new computer with Windows 10 and spent several hours on MS website trying to install Windows Mail [formerly Live Mail]. Apparently thousands of others had the same problem. I returned the computer. |
