Add Hard Drive Song to Myspace
"I have a song on my hard drive (an MP3 music file) and I want to add this song to my Myspace profile. I don't want to use a song from the Myspace Music library, the song is already on my hard drive, but I can't figure out how to make it visible to Myspace. How can I do that?"

This is a common question, because so many people have MP3 music files on their hard drives. But in order for something to show up in a web browser (on Myspace or elsewhere) it **MUST** be on the Web. Files on your personal hard drive are only accessible to you.
If you have a song on your hard drive and you want to use it on your Myspace profile, you must first upload that music file to the Web. If you don't have a personal website, I recommend that you get a free account on Angelfire, Tripod or another free hosting site, and upload your MP3 file there. Make note of the URL (web address) of the uploaded MP3 file, then plug it into the example below:
Now login to Myspace, edit the I'd Like to Meet section of your profile and paste the above code there. Visit your Myspace profile, you'll see the music player graphic and hear the selected sound clip play.
NOTE: (Jan 18 2007) There's a Myspace bug affecting the addition of EMBED code to a profile. If you're following the instructions above, and the code is coming out jumbled, it's not your fault. Hopefully Myspace will fix this problem soon...
NOTE: (Jan 23 2007) Myspace has fixed the problem, sort of... You can add a music player to your page, but it will not play in the Firefox browser. Internet Explorer seems to work fine. I did notice that Myspace changes the EMBED code above to an ugly looking OBJECT tab (which at least works in IE), and puts two dots ".." where the EMBED tags were. You can re-edit the profile and remove the dots if you like.
NOTE: (Apr 23 2007) I found a solution for the Autostart problem. Enter the EMBED code as shown above, and after saving, Myspace will turn it into an OBJECT tag. You can then add a <param> statement to the OBJECT code. Try <param name="autostart" value="true" /> OR <param name="autostart" value="false" />

I have my songs on iTunes, so I burnt them and re-immported them as mp3 files. When I tried to upload it on geocities, I got that window with the quicktime question mark. I ensured my quicktime and flash player were current on updates and tried multiple times to re-upload the song, but no success. So, I tried the DivShare, but I got the white box. I tried to use the url they gave, but that didn't work either. I'm totally lost on what I can do to get this song on my myspace. Please help!
EDITOR'S NOTE: Find the MP3 file in your Windows Explorer, then click on it. Does it open and play from your hard drive?

The code for this worked great a few weeks ago, but now when I put it on my page, all I see is a black box where the player should be and I hear nothing. If I right click the black box it says something about flash player and "movie not loaded," but I made sure that was updated. Any suggestions?

This code has worked perfectly for months. Today it is showing up as just a black box. Has myspace disabled the code somehow? Thanks..

same for me, code worked for months, now it doesn't. It won't play my song at all. Could you please publish an updated code? I'm computer illiterate and I don't know how else to get my songs to play, all the songs on myspace music are no good or play just 20 secs of great songs. PLEASE HELP US!
EDITOR'S NOTE: It still works for me. I even tested adding a new MP3 song today. The player shows up and works great. You do know about the problems with Firefox, right? You need to use IE browser for this to work.

Thanks for your reply, like I said I'm bad with computers, I've had internet explorer all along and it's worked, but now it doesn't. I don't even know what Firefox is, I'm pretty sure I don't have it. Could I have it without knowing? I have a wma song, I can't see the player because I have that section invisible on my page so I can't even see what it's doing.

My player is still not showing up on myspace profile page if I view it from my own account. BUT, everyone else can see and hear it (except Firefox)! So, even though you may not think it is showing up, ask a friend to view it. I have 2 accounts and can see it from the other account. Strange... It does make editing a little bit more difficult but worth it.

Nice, i had all but a few characters off doing it myself and was beaten myself over why it wasn't working not to mention a space here or there which can make or break a code as you know, but im glad i came across this page with the proper, well explained code. Thanks:)
