Add Music to Myspace Blog
"I read your guide to adding music to a Myspace profile. But I've had trouble adding music to a Myspace blog posting. Is it possible to add or embed music in our myspace blogs?"

Yes! There's no "official" way to add a song to a Myspace blog posting, but there are a couple of tricks to get it done. Here's the one thing you need to keep in mind: When entering or editing your blog posting, before you paste in the code for the music player, you have to click the Show source button first. Otherwise, it will munge your carefully crafted HTML code.
So where do you get the code for the music player? If your song/sound clip is an MP3 or WAV file, see my articles Add Music to Myspace and/or Add Hard Drive Song to Myspace.
If your intention is to add one of the songs from Myspace Music to your blog posting, then do this instead... First, add the song to your Myspace profile. Then view the profile, and use the View Source function of your browser to see the HTML code for the profile. Copy the EMBED command for the song and paste it into the blog post.
Just remember, you must click the Show source button first, so you can edit the unformatted HTML codes, or the blog posting function will mess it up. To see this in action, view my profile and then click on the "Whee - Music in a Blog Posting!" blog entry.

Help! I'm about medium tech level. I'm trying to get the embedded off-site player to work in a blog entry. I've tried it in both Firefox and IE and am totally unable to do it. Usually the preview page just comes up blank. I'm using your code directly, and I have view source enabled. Is there any way you could show us exactly what you typed into the myspace blog editor to get that awesome post with the music players? I'm more interested in the embedded than the myspace player, but I can pick it out. Thanks! EDITOR'S NOTE: I used the code from this post: http://askbobrankin.com/add_music_to_myspace.html -- and changed only the URL. Remember you have to click the link that says "If you can't input your Blog, click here". And this only works with IE browsers, not Firefox. |

Ok, well I made some progress in the last few minutes. Now the problem is ActiveX safety prompts. I've gone so far as to change all the security settings in IE to either Enable or Prompt, and it still refuses to play. Then on the information bar it only has "more info" and "what is this" as options. There's no option to enable the script. I hate Myspace. |

I did everything it says. I copied the code, switched the url. I see the player but it isn't playing anything. I'm using IE, clicked View then scrolled down to Source. Not sure if that's what you mean by Show Source. But it just opens up a notepad. Any help? Is there a more specific code we should use for the blog posting?? Thanks! EDITOR'S NOTE: Things seem to change all the time on Myspace. And sometimes music works, and sometimes not. I agree it's very frustrating. |

Okay, well, I know I'm only 14, but I just wanted to let you know that the easiest way to do it is the code on your "Add Music to Myspace" and when you're in your blog, you have to go to "Customize blog" and Insert it under "Your own Header HTML" and the View - Source, I guess it depends what your browser, but if you don't have a "View" click on "Page" and "View Source" - I have to do that and I have a laptop. I know this really isn't a question, but I think it might help. |

I cant find the EMBED code. where is it located on the view source code page?? thanks !!! EDITOR'S NOTE: Grrr. Myspace changed the code so it uses a Javascript call instead. And they don't let you post Javascript ANYWHERE on Myspace. So this method won't work any more. |
