Cancel Myspace Account
"My daughter has two Myspace accounts. One gives out too much personal information and we want to delete it. But we don't remember the password and we no longer have access to the email account she used to create the account. Myspace only lets you cancel if you KNOW the email and password. I have sent emails to Myspace, but so far no replies. How can I get them to cancel this account?"

How to Delete a Myspace Account
It's pretty easy to cancel and remove a Myspace account, IF you have access to login to the account. To do so, just click on Account Settings, then click Cancel Account. A warning page will tell you that cancelling your MySpace account will PERMANENTLY REMOVE all of your profile information, including photographs, comments, and your list of Myspace Friends. If that's what you really want, click the red Cancel My Account button and your account will go poof! (A small cloud of greasy black smoke sometimes appears over your computer. Don't be alarmed, this is normal.)
If you DON'T have the password to the account, you can send a password retrieval request to Myspace. You provide the email address on file for your account, and Myspace will email your password to that address. Then you can login and cancel the Myspace account as described above.
Myspace doesn't allow you to cancel an account unless you can prove that you own the account. Otherwise, malicious people would be asking Myspace to delete the accounts of their enemies or competitors.
But I Don't Have the Password or Access to the Email Address!
If you don't have the account password or access to the email address associated with the account, there IS another way to prove that you are the rightful owner of the account. (This method can also be used if someone has created a fake profile that claims to be you.) It's called a Salute.
A Salute is a photo of yourself holding a handwritten sign with the word "MySpace.com" and your FriendID on it. You can find your Friend ID number after "friendID=" in the web address when viewing your profile. This is the FriendID of the profile you want to keep, not the fake or undesired profile. If you do not have a profile on MySpace, put your email address on the sign instead of the Friend ID.
After taking the Salute photo, you will need to upload that photo to the Web. You cannot post your Salute in a public place, so if you don't have your own website, I recommend that you open a free account at Geocities and upload it there.
Next, contact Myspace via this form, provide the web address (URL) of the Salute photo, and the web address of the undesired profile. Explain the situation, and why you want the profile removed. With a bit of luck, Myspace will soon cancel the account and remove the undesired profile.

Myspace said it would take 48 hours, it has not been 5 days, I have emailed them and they have done nothing. I asked on the boards and was banned. EDITOR'S NOTE: The boards? What board? |

If I cancel someone from my myspace will all the private messages I sent them be deleted from their side? Also, if I cancel my myspace all together will all the private messages be deleted? EDITOR'S NOTE: I would assume NO. Think of it like emails... once you send them, they're no longer under your control. |

i keep on trying to cancel my myspace account but then it tells me that it is sending an e-mail to my account but i've tryed many times on 3 different accounts and doesnt want to send me the confirmation to cancel my account. EDITOR'S NOTE: Do you get some error message? Or does it just not show up? I have a suspicion that some email systems block messages from Myspace, or filter them to the junk/spam folder... |

"To do so, just click on Account Settings, then click Cancel Account." As far as I can see there is no 'Account Settings' button near my profile picture... Any ideas? |

Someone is using a friend of mine's email address and has made an account with it. They have also taken one of my pictures and has posted inappropriate and rude comments about me on the profile. I've tried to get my friend (whose email it is) to delete it but he either can't or doesn't want to. How can I get rid of this account? It's creeping me out! I've contacted Myspace twice. There is no "report abuse" thing on the profile either. Help! EDITOR'S NOTE: Use this page to report abuse on Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/Modules/Help/Pages/HelpCenter.aspx?Category=3&Question=26 |
